The morning light crept through the windows as I reluctantly awoke, the events of last night still fresh in my mind. I was still processing everything when I heard voices coming from the living area. I dragged myself out of bed and headed downstairs, still wearing the remnants of yesterday's fatigue. I approached the living room, I saw my father, Winston Harris, and my stepmother, Chianel's mother, Chanel Vermiego, standing together. Their expressions were a mix of concern and disappointment while looking to my cousin and my sister. The room was tense, the atmosphere thick with unspoken words.
"Everyone, please have a seat," Winston said firmly, his voice steady yet carrying an undertone of worry. I noticed my cousins, Chianel included, seated in a line, their faces a mix of shame and anxiety. Mama took a deep breath before she began to speak.
.
"Last night was a wake-up call for all of us," she started, her tone calm but tinged with emotion. "We've seen the effects of our actions and how they impacted not just the party but also Rad's well-being." Her eyes locked onto each of us, her gaze unwavering.
"Chianel, I understand that you were just trying to enjoy yourself, but your actions had serious consequences. Rad experienced something very traumatic, and instead of being there for her, we all got caught up in the excitement of the party."
Chianel's shoulders slumped slightly, her eyes downcast.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean for anything bad to happen," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. Mama turned to my father and spoke with the same calm intensity.
"Winston, we need to address how we're managing these situations. It's not just about the party or the fun; it's about ensuring everyone feels safe and respected. We failed in that last night." Daddy nodded in agreement.
"I know emotions were high, and we all got caught up in the moment. But we need to remember that our actions have consequences. Rad's panic attack was a direct result of that. It's a reminder that we need to be more mindful and supportive." My dad calmly agree to Mama and he looked at me, his eyes softening.
"Rad, we're truly sorry for what happened. I hope you understand that our concern is genuine. We need to be better for each other, and that starts with acknowledging our mistakes."
"I want to apologize too. We should have been more attentive. I understand if you're upset, but please know that this is a lesson for all of us. We need to be there for one another, especially in times of need." Chanel nodded, stepping closer
I could see the sincerity in their expressions, and it touched me deeply. I knew they were trying their best to address the situation with emotional intelligence. Their words were a mix of regret and a genuine desire to make things right.
"Thank you," I said softly, trying to keep my emotions in check. "I appreciate that you're acknowledging what happened. It means a lot to me."
Daddy and Mama exchanged a glance, both visibly relieved by my response.
"We'll work on being more mindful in the future," Dad said.
"And if there's anything you need, please don't hesitate to let us know. We're here for you." Mama added
After nang usapan ay nag almusal na kaming lahat. Sounds of plate and fork lamang ang maririnig sa sobrsng tahimik.
