"George Weasley could die right now, and I'd laugh at his funeral."
editing song: doomsday by Lizzy McAlpine
It was odd, being back at the same old train station as usual when nothing in Cassie's life was "the usual". The girl sighed and glanced at the two aurors that had flanked her side for the entire trip. The goal was to blend in, but their all-black clothes and sour expressions just made her stand out even more.
"Uhh -" she started, neither of them looking at her as they were too busy scanning the surrounding people and pillars, waiting for her psychopathic father to jump out of the shadows. "Well, goodbye then, I guess."
The taller one looked down at her and nodded once, and the shorter pretended that he couldn't hear her. It was a stark contrast to the usual hug and long goodbye she received from her mother when she boarded the train in previous years.
October was Cassie's good luck charm, and it was already hard enough having to leave her on usual school years, the stretch of time between the first day of classes and Christmas break seeming to last forever. Now, when October's life could possibly be in danger, it felt like Cassie's mind could only think about the danger that may or may not be waiting around every corner.
Cassie boarded the train as quick as she could and wiggled her way through the crowds standing in the hallways, trying not to laugh when she accidentally rolled her luggage over someone's foot who didn't get out of her way in time. The poor boys friends laughed, and it reminded Cassie of her own friends. Everything will be back to normal when I see them, she thought, they were her shining beacon of hope in this time of despair.
She was already feeling the stare of what felt like millions on her back when she heard a snotty voice call out, "Hey, Black!"
Cassie rolled her eyes and yawned. "Not in the mood, Adrian." she said, uncharacteristically tame as she brushed past him. The boy stared at her with mirth-filled eyes, he was usually able to get a pretty big reaction out of her.
Cassie continued down the train, students stopping their conversations to look up at her as she passed by. Some shrunk back in fear, which sort of made the girl want to laugh. Before now, she was just an outspoken Ravenclaw girl with a large capacity for mischief, and now she was a psycho waiting to make her first kill.
"Hey, Cassie!" A voice rang out, strong and clear. It was much more welcome that Pucey's greeting, and the black-haired girl whipped around, her mood soaring at the mere sound.
The tall Asian girl was sprinting down the hallway, silky black hair fanning out behind her as she elbowed a sixth year to get through. A wide smile was stretched over her perfectly white teeth, and dimples had formed on her chiseled cheeks.
"Cho!"
The two girls embraced with a happy laugh, and the taller girl had hit Cassie so hard she stumbled back into the door of one of the train compartments, almost knocking it off its hinges. The students inside voiced their complaints, but it fell on deaf ears.
