Byakuya Kuchiki x Reader

Chapter Four

You dust yourself off and make your way towards your new room, wondering if your captain could be right in his statement.  No, those boys are much too infatuated with you to risk doing anything to upset you.

Soon after leaving the training field you cross paths with your new Lieutenant.
"Y/N! Don't tell me I just missed you training"

"Lieutenant Abarai, I'm afraid so.." you reply with a bow.
"Drop the honourifics, you can call me Renji alright" he reaches out to tussle your hair.
"Uh sure.. Renji"
"Hey, I'm grabbing some drinks later with some other soul reapers, why don't you join us?"
You're not one to socialise a whole lot, preferring to spend your time training in some form. But maybe it'll be nice to relax a little.
"Okay, that sounds good.. Renji" you try to get used to using his first name, it's not the most natural feeling for you.
"Great, then meet me in front of the barracks at 8, I'll walk you to the restaurant"
"Sure" you reply, and as he begins to leave you bow instinctively, he lets out a chuckle and you feel a little embarrassed.

You arrive back at your room and sure enough, all your belongings are neatly stacked and untouched. You begin the messy job of sorting through everything, putting things away in the right places.

A few hours pass, and your cases of barely worn clothes collected from the world of the living lay strewn about. You're not worried about being late, there's still a few hours before you need to meet Renji.

There's a knock on the door, and looking at the clock, you wonder who it could be. You head over and slide open your door, revealing your captain.

"Oh! Uh Captain " you bow and try to hide the surprise on your face.
"I came by to make sure you were settling in well."
"Ah yes captain I am" you take a step back and try to nonchalantly kick some of your clothes back into the case.
"Have you met any more members of division six yet?and are you getting along with everyone so far?"

"Only Lieutenant Abarai so far captain, and I am getting along well with him. We are going to have some drinks later this evening actually"

"I see" Byakuyas eyes narrow ever so slightly. He's not fond of this idea, yet once again can't seem to find a reason to be bothered by it.
"I'll need your assistance with some things in the morning, perhaps drinking is not the best idea..." he says sternly, hoping to discourage your social event.

"Don't worry Captain, I'll be up bright and early... "
Byakuya tries to find a new tactic.
"You don't seem like the social type Y/N, I hope you aren't agreeing to something your uncomfortable with"

"You're right Captain, I'm not the type to socialise often, but I know it's important to do so, captain"
Byakuya crosses his arm over his chest.
"What could be so important about getting drunk with your superior?"

"Well, it's not about getting drunk, it's about getting to know those you will work closely with, you could say it's a good team building exercise"

"Hmm, if you say so.. I don't see the value in such things, but do as you wish"
Now you start to see a glimpse of what people talked about in your captain. You know what you're about to say might backfire on you, but you do it anyway.

"Captain, perhaps if you join us, you might learn the value in it?"
Byakuya looks genuinely surprised by this question, his stony face betraying him for the first time in front of you.
He quickly regains his composure to answer.
"I have a lot to do this evening, but perhaps I could stop by.. only to supervise you and Renji and keep the two of you from drinking too heavily"

You smile a little, feeling quite proud that you got a reaction out of him without pissing him off.
"Yes Captain, I'm meeting Renji outside at 8.. "
Byakuya nods silently before leaving the room.

As you turn back to face your room you glow red when you see the mess again and wonder if your captain was judging you off that this whole time.
