Byakuya Kuchiki x Reader

Chapter Six

It's early morning and you approach the door to your captains office. Wondering what your task for this morning could be, you knock lightly on the door.
Byakuya calls out, inviting you in and you slide open the door giving a bow.

"Captain" you greet him.
"Y/N, take a seat. I'll need you to help with some of this paperwork" he says as he takes a small pile of papers from his desk, and places it on your side.
You carefully drag the chair forward so that you can reach the desk and take a seat.
"Yes Captain"
"These need a date and secondary signature" he says passing a pen over to you.

You begin right away, dating and signing quickly. Your elegant lettering doesn't go unnoticed, as Byakuya looks up from his own work.

He subtly watches the way you flick the pen to curl your signature, his eyes moving over your hands, your arms, shoulders and finally your face, where they rest comfortably.

Without realising it, he finds himself admiring your features. You feel his eyes on you and look up instinctively, his piercing gaze meeting yours.

"What is it Captain?" You ask wondering if you made a mistake somewhere.
Byakuya is caught off guard and clears his throat slightly.

"I was just admiring your penmanship.." he says keeping his composure.
"Oh.. thank you Captain" you say, looking down at your signature and dates. You don't think that it's your neatest work, as you were going for speed over aesthetic, but you take the compliment.

Byakuya focuses on his work again, internally reprimanding himself for being caught like that.
As time passes you become more and more focused, not noticing the hell butterfly that flitters over to Byakuya.

"Y/N" he says, after receiving the butterfly's message.
But you are so focused you don't hear your captain call your name. He repeats himself a little louder yet you remain engrossed with your work.

It's not until Byakuya reaches out his hand, lightly placing it over yours, preventing you from writing anymore, that you stop.
You look up from the papers, face blushing at his warm touch.
You feel a tingling sensation radiate from your hand to the rest of your body as your heart speeds up.

"Y/N" he repeats "this is enough for today, I have some other matters to attend to"
His hands lingers slightly longer than it should.
"Oh.. of course Captain"
"You're dismissed" he says retracting his hand, his voice cooling down again after the unusually warm tone he had used.

Flustered, you stand up, bowing to him before leaving the room. It's not until you've gained some distance from your captain's office that you manage to take a deep breath, a sigh escaping your lips.

*What was that... why did my heart start to race when he touched my hand* you thought. Remembering the sensation causes your heart to race again, and you try to shake away the ideas forming in your head.
You lean against a wall and slide down, as you calm your mind.

"Y/N" your heart your lieutenants voice from right beside you. Looking up you see Renji, with a devious grin.
"Are you free? Shall we do some training?"

*Yes, training... what better to calm myself down* you think, before responding.
"Sounds good to me renji"
"Let's go, I know a good place where we can train more comfortably"
You follow renji as he flash steps, heading for the centre of the seireitei. He's easy to keep up with, his flash step mustn't be his strongest point.
After a short time you both arrive at a secretive training ground, deep inside the mountain.

The simulated sky is bright, the rocky landscape is sparse. It's a place you can really go all out.

Your sparring session with Renji stretches on, you're quite evenly matched across all skills.
Your speed and hand to hand is clearly superior, however Renji's sword skills more than make up for it.
Hours pass, and despite the bright sky, you are sure it's almost dark out. As the two of you finish off, Renji suggests you take some time to relax in the hot spring, and he leaves.

You soak in the hot water, letting the steam warm your face.  The training kept your mind occupied for a good while, but now as you relax, the same thoughts drift through your mind again.

You try to reason with yourself, all these years you never let yourself be distracted from your goal, why now?
