off couldn't help but shift awkwardly in the passenger seat. he occasionally glanced at gun, who was too busy focusing on the road ahead of him to acknowledge the glances. but gun felt them— each one like a tiny, irritating needle prick. his annoyance was barely concealed.

off looked away quickly, his eyes settling on the glaringly obvious hickeys along guns neck and which trailed under his tshirt. he knew he was the one responsible for them, but seeing the evidence in the stark light of day made his stomach twist with guilt and something else he didn't want to admit to. the tension in the car was suffocating, but off couldn't shake the thoughts spinning in his head.

after a long stretch of silence, gun finally spoke, his voice laced with irritation. "remember, you're paying for my makeup. im not showing up at home looking like this."

off just nodded, though gun wasn't even looking at him. "yeah, yeah, i know. i'll cover it."

silence returned, thick and heavy between them, but off could feel a question gnawing at him, something that had been bothering him since this morning. he knew it was risky to bring it up, but he couldn't keep quiet any longer.

"gun.." off started hesitantly, his voice softer than usual. "what are you going to tell luke and tay?"

guns eyes narrowed, and he shot off a quick, sharp glance before turning back to the road. "what do you mean?"

off swallowed hard, feeling suddenly unsure of himself. "i mean.. you and luke seem really close. you've been hanging out with him lately, and tay.. you've also been talking to him a lot. so i thought.. that.. maybe something was going on between you and them."

gun jerked his head back, realizing what off was trying to say. "me and luke? me and tay? why the hell would you think that?"

off shifted uncomfortably in his seat, trying to explain without making things worse. "it just seems like.. i don't know, maybe you and luke have something going on. he's never really been around our group before, and i don't know, he just seems like your type."

"my type?" gun couldn't help but question.

off ignored that as he didn't know the right way to respond and continue. "plus, you and tay.. you spend a lot of time together. i mean, you both talk on the phone and go out.. i thought they might be more than just friends to you."

gun let out a harsh laugh, shaking his head in disbelief. "you've got everything all wrong. and not that it's really any of you're business but there's nothing going on with me and luke or tay. luke was hanging around because i've been helping him with his crush on mook, whom i am really close to since she's my usual tutor. he needed advice, and I was trying to help him out. and as for tay, we're just friends. the phone calls, the dates— they're nothing but platonic gestures."

off blinked, his face flushing with embarrassment as the realization hit him. "wait... so, you're not dating either of them?"

"no, i'm not dating either of them!"gun snapped, frustration evident. "off, one thing about me is that i have never been prone to cheating. and it kinda sucks that you'd think i would be one to do that. and lets say i was, do you think i'd cheat on them just to cheat with you?"

off rolled his eyes around the last part. "that kinda hurt. it didn't seem like you didn't enjoy it l-"

gun let out a loud yelp, "nothing more about last night! it's bad enough with these on my neck."

they fell into silence again, but it felt different now—less hostile, more like the calm after a storm. off felt embarrassed, but at least now he knew where things stood. they were both in uncharted territory, trying to figure out what last night meant, if anything.
