The neon lights of the city flickered outside the Uber window as Amara and Kamila settled into their seats. The rhythmic thump of the bass from the car's speakers set the tone for the night. Both girls were on their phones, scrolling through their feeds and exchanging occasional glances, the excitement evident.
"Why am I low-key nervous?" Amara laughed nervously, glancing at Kamila.
Kamila looked up from her phone, a reassuring smile spreading across her face. "Babe, I'm telling you it's going to be fine. Like I said, we'll see what the party's giving, and if we don't like it, we'll leave straight away. Don't worry." She reached over, squeezing Amara's hand gently.
Amara returned the smile and shifted her gaze to the window, watching the city blur by. The anticipation of the night ahead was a mix of excitement and anxiety, a cocktail of emotions that left her feeling on edge.
As the Uber pulled up near the party venue, the girls thanked the driver and stepped out. The night air was crisp, sending a shiver through Amara. "It's a bit chilly, wow. Should have brought my jacket," she remarked as they walked towards the house, looking around the unfamiliar neighborhood.
"For real. I hope it's nice and warm inside," Kamila agreed, rubbing her arms for warmth.
As they neared the house, Amara spotted a group of boys dressed in black and blue outfits, predominantly blue. She grabbed Kamila's arm. "Do you think they're going to the party?" she asked, her voice tinged with curiosity.
Kamila glanced over at the group and then back at Amara, her expression serious. "Oh my days, Sixers," she muttered almost to herself. Quickly, she pulled Amara towards the door and knocked.
"Sixers? What's that?" Amara asked, confusion evident in her voice.
Before Kamila could answer, the door swung open, revealing a girl with a wide smile. "Hey Kamila, you're here!" she greeted, stepping aside to let them in.
"Babe, of course," Kamila responded, smiling back. As they walked inside, Kamila turned to the girl. "Wait, is my brother here by any chance?"
The girl nodded and pointed towards a corner where Skreamer stood with Tayo and a few others. Amara followed the direction of her finger and felt her heart skip a beat. There was Tayo, leaning against the wall, his head down as he scanned the room.
Kamila led the way towards Skreamer, Amara holding onto her arm. "Samir," Kamila called out in a calm yet agitated tone.
Skreamer looked up, surprise flashing across his face. "Kamila, what are you doing here?" His gaze shifted to Amara, then to Tayo, who was already watching Amara intently.
"I think the Sixers are coming here, Samir," Kamila said, her eyes darting to Tayo.
Before Skreamer could reply, the girl from earlier rushed over. "The Sixer boys are outside. They're saying if you don't go outside, they're gonna come inside."
Tiny moved quickly past them towards the window, Skreamer following close behind. The music thumped on, adding to the tense atmosphere.
"Open the door," one of the Sixers called from outside.
"You can't go there," the DJ warned Tiny as he opened the curtains slightly to peek outside.
"Shut up," Skreamer snapped at the DJ.
The music abruptly stopped, and the air filled with murmurs and shouts.
"Bro, chill," the DJ responded, tension thick in the air.
The knocking grew louder and more insistent.
"Oi. Oi, Tazer."
"Pussio."
