Pinky Promises

Locking the doors I grabbed my black backpack that was off to the side of the white double front doors. Hitoshi was by the white picket gated fence and was waiting for me. I took a mental note on how he looked. Heavy eyebags with a tired look on his face. He wore his school uniform which was a white button up with a black blazer on top of it and gray trousers with his white outside tennis shoes.

Walking up to him I began to speak to him as we left the premise of my old house. "So Hitoshi, what's in the box?" Our steps matched one another as we walked towards the bus stop in order to go to our school.

He took a moment before answering my question as he let the wind calmly whistles in our ears with the leaves from the trees and bushes rustling with one another. "It's just a couple of small things that Persphone and Hades will like that I found around your house."

I nodded my head at him as I stared at the sidewalk below me. Seeing my gray skirt that reached just below my knees ruffling against the cool wind. It somewhat matched with the way the leaves were rustling with one another. The wind felt nice against the skin that was bare to the world, which was her calves, hands, neck and face.

I heard Hitoshi lightly laugh, causing me to glance in his direction. His purple eyes stared at me. Staring at my every movement. It didn't feel weird to me though. It didn't feel uncomfortable for him to do so. All I felt was a sense of relief and calmness. His eyes always reminded me of how his used to look. It brought a small hidden smile to my lips.

"Is the coldness not bothering you?" Hitoshi humorly questioned. He knew the answer to his own question. He asked me that when we first met each other. Exactly when we were freshly twelve years old starting junior high. It was the first time he spoke to me. His voice was different from how it is now but roughly it was still the first time he used it around me.

Regardless, I answered his question as if he didn't know. As if we were back in the old ages. Back to being twelve years old starting a new school. "The cold never bothers me." A small smile spread on his lips.

We stayed in complete silence. A comfortable one at that. It wasn't hard to do between us. We prefer it over talking to one another. Prefer the silence than noises of one's voices. It was peaceful to hear the silence and what the world has to offer to fill in. Peaceful to listen to hear the honking from cars, hearing the water traveling down stream, hearing others gossip as you listen and learn new information. It was easier like that than filling the void with your own voice. To feel like people need to hear what you have to say instead of what you have to offer.

Standing at the bus stop I grabbed a hold of my pen that was in my pocket before twirling around my fingers. A way to keep my physical self occupied while I thought to myself. It wasn't out of the ordinary for me to do as Hitoshi stood besides me as we awaited for the bus. We both leaned on the wall. His eyes closed as my eyes traveled down to where his hand was. Laying at the side of his body, he tapped his thumb to his index finger once before moving to tap his middle finger then tapped his ring finger and lastly his pinky finger before tapping his pinky once again and going backwards.
