The heat of the sun cooked them slowly. Even without Valk and Dom standing by the side and watching the game show, it was as intense as the historic war. Boombox crouched over at the orange sandstone, out of breath and exhausted. All he wanted was water to cool down and to prevent himself from baking in the Sun. Skate, on the other hand, continued to pick up the pace despite the harsh conditions. His skateboard rolled against the orange said as his forward velocity was only accelerating every second. He was facing the enemy team, a 2v1 against his friend Slingshot.
The cat demon stretched out the rubber between the bridge of his slingshot, smirking as he plucks each shot in attempt to hit the skater. Skate pushed on despite the chip damage barraging onto his back. Closer and closer, Skate closed in the space of the slingshot wielding cat demon until he was only a bench size far from him. Sling sees through his friend's plan on attacking him close up, so he started to back away. However, he wasn't fast enough as Skate hopped off his board and swung his board around. He dealt massive impact; Sling fell backwards onto the dusty red sand. Instead of a salty expression, Sling smiled genuinely.
"You're improving since the last 4 hours, Skate!" Sling complemented as he quickly got back onto his feet.
"Just doing what I am doing, Sling!" Skate commented with a smirk and preparing for another swing, "speed's my game, remember?"
At the quick of his feet, Sling pounced away before the swinging board could touch him. Skate was left with shock as he watched his friend briefly galloping away in the air, adding a few more meters from him and the cat.
"Hey! That's not fair!" Skate jokingly ranted, completely distracted by the unexpected move pulled.
"You're doomed, Skate! I have the high ground!" Sling commented in a joking manner.
Skate giggled at Sling's joke. Boombox, on the other hand, sees Skate struggling to catch up to Sling. The skateboarder may be faster than a running guy, but he needs time to hop back on his makeshift vehicle and hypnotize himself back into the flow. He knew that Skate would be in trouble as he watched Sling slowly reaching for the small pouch strapped onto his side. He was going to bombard the skater with mountains of rock. He swung his boombox over his shoulder before picking up the pace on his feet. Dry sand kicked up like dandelion on a windy day as the DJ's eyes eyed on the hand in Sling's pouch. He needed to run faster if he wanted to get his friend out of a 'sticky' situation.
Finally, Sling stopped giggling and put on a slightly serious face.
"Right! We are getting off track here! My turn to attack!"
Skate stopped running and confused as his friend pulled out four small pebbles from his pouch. Sling smiled as he spun around, setting the pebbles into the mouth of his slingshot and aiming at the confused skater. Skate braced himself from the impact. Boombox know sees Sling's stretched rubber band. He shuts his eyes as he dialed his boombox to full volume. At the last second, he stood himself between him and Skate. The massive soundwaves of the music machine created a sound barrier, deflecting all the pebbles into different directions. Skate smiled.
"Thanks, Boom!" he says, giving him a thumbs up.
"Wow! I didn't know my boombox can get as loud as a shockwave," Boombox commented, amused by his attack, "I should had known earlier."
"Maybe if your ass wasn't break-dancing over k-pop songs, then you should had realized that music is a form of weapon," Skate jokingly commented.
"Hey, that's mean. :["
"I'm kidding!"
Sling backed away into the corner where the orange sand block determines his demise on this battlefield. Boombox's high amplitude shield wore off, but it was too late for the cafe owner. Boombox and Skate completely cornered Sling.
"You're cornered, Sling!" Skate exclaimed with a smug smile.
"Or am I?" Sling menacingly replied.
His horns glowed a bright, cheerful cyan as he stepped a foot forward. He then fiddled his fingers in a wild direction, spinning his slingshot in a circular motion. Skate and Boombox were stunned to their motionless feet, flabbergasted on what Slingshot was doing. Surely, this wasn't a trick in attempt to escape his defeat. Finally, he stopped spinning before pointing his slingshot towards Skate and Boombox.
"Can't catch me!"
Skate snapped out of it; he quickly lunges towards Sling to stop the 'ritual' he performed. Slipped out of his grasp, Sling paced out of the incoming skateboard attack. He was running much faster than before. Skate swore under his breathe before hopping back onto his board with wheels in attempt to chase that cat on steroids. He focused on picking up his velocity to catch the feline, but little does he know that this was more than a trick. Sling picked up three huge stones in his hand before placing one of them in the stretched rubber string.
"Heard you can dodge anything with that speed," Sling confidently said, "Try to dodge this!"
Skate grabbed his board ready, preparing to make a sharp left turn before going back on track. However, cyan light flashed around him. He was in the fire area. It was too late. Sling shot the devastating shot. A blue flash covered Skate's eyes as he felt his skin was hit by a large bullet. He tripped over, falling face first on the hard, red sand. His board continues to roll down the sandy slope until it was blocked by a sandstone wall. Skateboard was down.
Seeing this, Boombox decided to take his friend's spot. He ran as fast as he could, creating another sound wave shield in hoping that Sling's devastating attack could be neutralized. However, his hypothesis was proven wrong when Sling pointed his slingshot towards him, shooting another wide beam with another cyan glowing bullet. The shot pierced through his sound barrier, sending him towards the sandstone wall. His body collapses right next to the lonely skateboard which was happy to see its owner's friend beside him. Zuka blew the whistle before flicking through the papers. At the same manner, Medkit flooded into the sandy battleground before shooting Skate and Boombox with healing syringes. Skate woke up first, meekly smiling at Medkit.
"Thanks, Meddy! You're the best!" Skate weakly wheezed.
"Don't call me that ever again." Medkit pouted with an annoyed expression.
"Thank you, Meddy-"
"You too, Boombox."
Zuka stepped in between them as Sling's horns stopped glowing. He was tallying the results with each kill counting as one point to the attacking team.
"For the annihilate round, it is 5 points against 4," Zuka announced, "At the last second, Sling managed to boost from 3 to 5 points. Therefore, he wins this match!"
"LET'S GO!" Sling celebrated with his arms raised crazily in the air.
"Woah, Sling! What was that? The thing where you shot light out of a slingshot," Skate curiously asked as he slowly raised from the ground and brushing the sand off his red singlet, "you were so fast, I couldn't catch up to you!"
"Yeah! And what was with the glowing horns? I never seen anything like that," Boombox added, joining into the conversation.
Slingshot laughed.
"Well! I'll tell you too when we get some ice-cream back at Crossroads! You've got a lot to learn!"
"Hit me up!"
As the trio, Medkit and Zuka returned to the dusty truck, a figure was lurking over the orange sandbar of a tall sandstone. They have curved horns with snake like teal eyes. She was dressed like a cowgirl, but she was known to be a notorious killer. She was wanted in every faction, especially Medkit's home. She looked down at the paper in front of her. The photo of the skater printed on the sheet.
