—————As the plane landed, I looked through the window watching our descent. Sydney, Australia, I thought, letting out a sigh. Time for a fresh start.
Two months ago, my sister passed. I took a break from work to go on vacation, and while I was gone, she was assaulted by a drunk and sent to the ER. She was taken to the hospital I worked at, and I wasn't there for her. She died before someone could even get ahold of me.
I never felt at home in LA, but now it felt suffocating. Working in that hospital only reminded me that I wasn't there when I needed to be there the most. Quinn tried to support me, but she understood how trapped I felt by it all. When I told her I couldn't stay in LA, she helped me search for jobs. Miraculously, I found an opening. It was the perfect nursing job for me, the only issue was its location: Sydney.
It was far away, really far away, but I needed a fresh start, anywhere but LA. So I quit my job without a second thought and packed my life away for Australia.
Now, I was getting my bags, going through security, and taking my first steps in a new city.

—————I looked around my new apartment with boxes of all my things scattered everywhere. Unpacking would be a process, but I was going to enjoy every second of decorating my new home.
A couple hours later, I was finishing decorating my bathroom when I got a call from the hospital I accepted the job at.
"Hello? Melissa Groves speaking," I said after answering the call.
"Hi Ms. Groves, I'm calling about the job offer you accepted at Sydney Hospital recently. We have had some technology issues recently, which has caused some errors within staffing. Unfortunately, we can no longer offer you a job with us right now. We will be sending you four weeks pay to make up for this error on our behalf. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call this number or email us at the email on the job listing. We wish you the best in your future career."
The call had ended just after it started, leaving me in shock as I slide to the floor and started to cry, panic quickly following. Hyperventilating, I called Quinn.
"Hi, what's up?" Quinn yawned. I forgot about timezones and definitely woke her up.
"No," I let out a sob, still panicking.
"Lissa, just breathe, breathe with me okay? In for four, hold four, out four, hold four, ready?"
We box-breathed over the phone for a couple minutes as I felt myself slowly calming down.
"What's wrong?" Quinn asked.
I took a big breath in, trying to not start panicking again.
"My job offer just got revoked," I breathed out.
"What?" Quinn responded in shock.
"Some issue with staffing or something, I don't know and I don't care but now I don't have a job and I'm stressing out. I got a month's worth of pay which will keep me afloat for a little but I don't know where else there is in Sydney for me to work."
