The Gilbert Medium || Colby Brock

THE GILBERT MEDIUM

Nicolette Miranda Gilbert was the baby of the Gilbert family, being five years younger than her older sister, Elena, and three years younger than her older brother, Jeremy.

Nico in simple terms wasn't planned by her parents. Grayson and Miranda had decided that two was enough even if one of them was adopted but then along came Nico on August 25th, 1997.

Miranda adored her from the start while Grayson on the other hand barely paid attention to Nico... he didn't mistreat her so to speak but just didn't acknowledge her existence unless it was for public appearance.

Nico had thought that she was just a normal kid for the first eight years of her life; that was when she discovered her abilities; she was always more sensitive to certain things that her siblings weren't, which often made her older sister call her a crybaby or weird because she would seemingly randomly space out and then not remember what was happening before it happened.

Eight-year-old Nico had been sitting with her feet dangling off the edge of a bridge in the park, just watching the water of the pond... when she saw the ripple in the water, and a woman flickered and appeared beside her.

Nico was startled but something about the presence of this woman made her feel safe, like the woman didn't want to hurt her. "Hello there, I'm Nicolette but I go by Nico."

The woman was surprised. Sure, she was drawn to the positive energy the little girl was radiating but wasn't expecting to be seen, "Hello, little one, you may call me Liliana or Lili if you would like."

That was when Nico turned her head and noticed the woman looked more transparent than solid, "I can see through you..." She wasn't afraid, though.

"You can, little one; I was drawn to your positive aura but didn't anticipate your apparent gift would be so strong already that you would physically see me."

"My apparent gift?"

"Yes, I have only felt such a positive aura surrounding the mediums that I've encountered as I am not on the plane of the living, I was killed long ago by my father in law to be, he didn't want me to marry his son, because he didn't think I was good enough."

"you're a ghost then Lili? and you called me a medium which means I can communicate with ghosts like you?"

Lili smiled at the young girl, "Indeed, Nico, but not all of the spirits who will seek you out, once they sense your aura are kind, they will try to harm you or those around you but, you just have to remember that you are the one in control not them... you will of course need to be train with your abilities before they start sensing you as I did."

Lili had agreed to watch over her while she learned to control her newfound abilities. Nico kept this information to herself, not trusting that her parents wouldn't call her crazy and make her see the scary doctors that her father sometimes worked with, she only trusted two people and that was Sheila Bennett as she knew the woman was a witch, thanks to Lili and Caroline Forbes the bubbly blonde that had been like an older sister to her since she was very small. The blonde played with her and treated her like a little sister even when Elena didn't want to do anything with Nico.

So she trained her abilities in secret with coaching from Lili who had gathered information for her from different mediums that she had encountered and trusted.

Nico was twelve when tragedy struck and her parent's car ran off Wickery Bridge with her sister in the backseat though Nico loved her sister and was happy that she was okay, was more affected by her parent's death mostly her mother's, though she had seen them crossover and knew they were okay and happy wherever they ended up going when they crossed over, which was comforting in a way.

Then the Salvatore brothers came into the picture and turned everything upside down in ways Nico never expected sure because of her gift she knew about the existence of the different supernatural creatures, she just never expected her sister to be so involved in all the drama that followed the arrival of the Salvatore Brothers.

Nico became no stranger to loss after that because she learned quickly that death swarmed the two vampires and left nothing but pain and destruction in their wake... meeting the two had led to Nico meeting her first malevolent spirit, but the girl remembered her training and came out unscathed.

Though the positive thing about all of it was that she met him, the man who took her under his wing almost immediately after meeting her Kol Mikaelson, he to the surprise of his other siblings became a father figure to the young medium, only for it to be ripped away from her that fateful night because her sister wanted the cure and to not be a vampire anymore... that was when the wedge between the Gilbert siblings was started, Nico was 14 at the time and realized that she was now alone basically since her only remaining family had basically cemented that she would never forgive them for killing the one person that has really treated her more like a daughter than her actual father had.

She ran away after that with Lili leading her to the woman who would take her in and help her grow her gift and flourish into the beautiful person that Nicolette Gilbert would become. Eloise Hartley was also a medium one that Liliana trusted more than anyone else which was why she led 14 year old Nico to her.

All of this would lead the young medium to meeting them, to meeting him.

Colby Brock, the man was something Nico hadn't expected to crash into her already hectic life but there was nothing that she would change about it, she would never have admitted to believing in love at first sight, that was until she looked into his blue eyes for the first time as he steadied her after running into her on the streets of New York City.

That chance meeting would lead to a whirlwind of events that would consume the two and finally give them both a sense of belonging, knowing that they would always have each other no matter what they faced.

Okay so I spent the last two days (as of the day that this was written 07-23-24) binge-watching Sam and Colby on Prime Video and immediately knew that I wanted to write a Colby Brock fic but didn't want to do something that had been done a thousand times before the whole social media type of fics so I had this little idea to make sam and Colby and the people that appear in their paranormal investigation videos real in The Vampire Diaries Universe and here we are :D

I am honestly so excited to get into this!!!
