The bell rang, signaling the end of first period. I gathered my books and headed to my locker, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. The hallways were buzzing with chatter as students moved to their next classes. I spotted Luca leaning against my locker, a grin spreading across his face as he saw me.

"How was the first class?" he asked, his eyes twinkling with mischief.

"Not bad," I replied, opening my locker and shoving my books inside. "Just the usual first-day stuff. How about you?"

"Same here," he said, shrugging. "But I heard there's a new teacher in our history class. Should be interesting."

We made our way to history class, slipping into seats at the back of the room. The new teacher, Ms. Evans, was already at the front, writing her name on the board. She turned around and smiled at the class.

"Good morning, everyone. I'm Ms. Evans, and I'll be your history teacher this year. I hope you're all ready to dive into some fascinating topics."

As she started the lesson, I found myself actually paying attention. Ms. Evans had a way of making history come alive, and her enthusiasm was contagious. Luca nudged me halfway through the class, whispering, "I think I'm actually going to like this class."

"Me too," I whispered back, surprised at how much I meant it.

After history, we had lunch. Luca and I found our usual spot in the cafeteria, and as we sat down, he pulled out a bag of chips from his backpack. "Want some?" he offered.

"Sure," I said, taking a handful. "So, what do you think of senior year so far?"

"It's only been a few hours, but I think it's going to be pretty great," he said, crunching on a chip. "Especially if we stick together."

I smiled, feeling a sense of optimism wash over me. With Luca by my side, I knew I could handle whatever this year threw at me.
