Professor Nightshade cleared his throat, immediately drawing the attention of the entire class. Silence fell over the room like a veil, all eyes riveted on the imposing figure of the teacher.

"Welcome to all for this new year," he began in a deep, melodious voice that seemed to resonate in the room. "As you know, history is not simply a series of past events. It is a living narrative, a complex tapestry woven of choices, consequences, and intertwined destinies."

His eyes swept across the class, pausing briefly on each face. When he came to Aria, she felt as if his gaze lingered a little longer. She stiffened imperceptibly, feeling that strange shiver again.

"This year," he continued, "we will explore the pivotal moments of history, those instances when the fate of the world teetered on a razor's edge. We will examine how the actions of seemingly insignificant individuals have shaped the course of history."

Aria was hanging on his every word, fascinated despite herself. There was something about the way Professor Nightshade spoke that made history come alive, almost tangible.

"But before we dive into the depths of history," he said with a slight smile, "allow me to welcome our new student." He turned to Aria, who felt her heart leap in her chest. "Miss Luminosa, could you stand up and introduce yourself to the class?"

Aria rose slowly, feeling all eyes turn to her. She took a deep breath, striving to keep her voice steady. "My name is Aria Luminosa. I'm from San Francisco and... I'm happy to be here in Ravenswood."

She was about to sit down when Professor Nightshade interrupted her. "San Francisco? A fascinating city, rich in history. Perhaps you could tell us about a significant historical event from your hometown?"

Aria felt a wave of panic rise within her. She had never really lived in San Francisco; it was just part of their cover story. She frantically searched her memory, trying to recall what she had read about the city's history.

"Well," she began, her voice slightly trembling, "there was the great earthquake of 1906. It almost destroyed the entire city, but the inhabitants managed to rebuild it and turn it into the metropolis it is today."

Professor Nightshade nodded, an enigmatic smile on his lips. "Indeed, an excellent example of human resilience in the face of adversity. Thank you, Miss Luminosa. You may sit down."

Aria sat down, relieved to have passed this impromptu test. Next to her, Ivy gave her an encouraging smile.

The rest of the class passed in a blur for Aria. Professor Nightshade spoke passionately about the importance of individual choices in the course of history, but she had trouble concentrating. Her mind kept returning to her encounter with Lucas in the hallway, to the strange sensation she had felt.

When the bell rang, announcing the end of class, Aria gathered her things, ready to follow Ivy to their next class. But Professor Nightshade's voice stopped her.

"Miss Luminosa, could you stay for a moment?"

Aria exchanged a worried look with Ivy, who shrugged reassuringly. "I'll wait for you outside," she whispered before leaving.

Once the room was empty, Aria approached the teacher's desk, her heart pounding. Had he noticed something? Did he know she was lying about her past?

"Don't worry, Miss Luminosa," said Professor Nightshade with a smile meant to be reassuring. "I just wanted to make sure you were adapting well. Change can be... difficult."

Aria nodded, trying to appear calm. "Everything's fine, sir. Everyone has been very welcoming."

The professor looked at her for a long moment, as if searching for something in her eyes. "Good," he finally said. "Know that if you need anything, my door is always open. Ravenswood can be a... peculiar town for newcomers."
