The bell above the door tinkled softly as Lucas and Aria entered the Vega Bookshop. The interior was even more impressive than they had expected. Dark wooden shelves rose from floor to ceiling, loaded with ancient books in worn leather bindings. The air was heavy with the characteristic smell of aged paper and ink, creating an almost intoxicating atmosphere for the two teenagers.

The dim light came from old oil lamps strategically placed, casting dancing shadows on the book-covered walls. Dust particles floated lazily in the beams of light, giving the place an almost unreal aspect, as if they had just entered another world.

"Welcome to the Vega Bookshop," said a soft but firm voice, startling Lucas and Aria.

They turned to see an elderly woman standing behind a polished wooden counter. Her gray hair was gathered in a tight bun, and her eyes, a piercing green, seemed to shine with ancient wisdom. She wore a long dress of deep purple, adorned with complex patterns that seemed to almost move in the flickering light.

"Mrs. Vega?" Lucas asked, striving to keep his voice steady despite his excitement.

The woman inclined her head slightly, a small smile playing on her lips. "Indeed, young man. What can I do for you?"

Lucas hesitated for a moment, not knowing exactly how to explain their presence. "We... we're looking for information," he finally said. "About the history of Ravenswood."

Mrs. Vega's eyes lit up with interest. "The history of Ravenswood? That's a vast and complex subject. Do you have a particular period or aspect in mind?"

Aria intervened, her voice slightly trembling. "We're particularly interested in the... unusual events that have occurred over the years."

"Come," she said, heading towards the back of the shop. "We have much to discuss."

They followed her through a maze of shelves, delving deeper into the bookshop. Lucas noticed that the books seemed to become increasingly ancient and mysterious as they progressed. Some titles were written in languages he didn't recognize, others seemed to glow faintly in the darkness.

Finally, they arrived in a small circular room, lit by a crystal chandelier that projected complex patterns on the walls. In the center was a round table of dark wood, surrounded by three comfortable armchairs. Mrs. Vega invited them to sit with a wave of her hand.

She observed them carefully, as if evaluating them. Then, without a word, she turned and disappeared between the shelves. Lucas and Aria exchanged a confused look, wondering if they should follow her.

A few moments later, she reappeared, carrying a large leather-bound book. She placed it on the table with care. "Here," she said, "the Chronicles of Ravenswood. This book contains accounts and testimonies of the... let's say, extraordinary events that have marked our town over the centuries."

Lucas and Aria approached with reverence. The book looked ancient, its pages yellowed by time. Mrs. Vega opened it delicately, revealing pages covered with elegant handwriting.

"Years ago," Mrs. Vega began, her voice taking on a storyteller's tone, "I knew a man who possessed a particular gift. He could manipulate fire at will."

Lucas and Aria exchanged a surprised look. A fire manipulator?

"What happened to him?" Aria asked, fascinated.

Mrs. Vega smiled sadly. "He left a long time ago. To another town, in search of others like him, I suppose."

Lucas felt his heart quicken. "Are there others? People with... special gifts?"

Mrs. Vega's gaze became piercing. "You already know a lot, don't you, Mr. Blackwood? More than you let on."

Lucas froze, stunned. He exchanged an alarmed look with Aria before turning back to the old lady. "How... how do you know my name?" he stammered, taken aback.

An enigmatic smile formed on Mrs. Vega's wrinkled lips. "Oh, my dear, there's little that escapes my knowledge in this town, especially when it comes to the... particular families of Ravenswood."

Lucas and Aria remained silent, not knowing how to react to this unexpected revelation. The tension in the air was palpable, charged with unspoken questions and barely concealed secrets.

Finally, Lucas took a deep breath and decided to take the risk. "Mrs. Vega," he began cautiously, "we saw something strange recently. A kind of... rift in the air. As if reality itself had torn for a moment. Do you know anything about this?"

Mrs. Vega's eyes widened slightly, a spark of interest lighting up in her gaze. "A rift, you say? Interesting... Very interesting."

"What you saw," she said in a low, grave voice, "could well be what we call a sound portal."

"A sound portal?" Aria repeated, intrigued.

Mrs. Vega nodded. "Yes. They are magical passages hidden in the town, invisible to the naked eye most of the time. They sometimes manifest as rifts or tears in the air, as you described."

She turned a few pages of the book, stopping on an illustration depicting a kind of luminous whirlpool crossed by a shimmering rift. "Sound portals are bridges between our world and... others. They sometimes open, creating these rifts in reality that you glimpsed."

"But why are they called 'sound' portals?" Lucas asked.

"Ah, excellent question, Mr. Blackwood," Mrs. Vega replied with a slight smile. "It's because they often emit particular sounds when they're about to open. Whispers, echoes, sometimes even a kind of melody. Those who are sensitive to magic can hear them and locate them."

Aria leaned forward, fascinated. "And these portals, where exactly do they lead?"

Mrs. Vega's face darkened slightly. "That's where things become dangerous, my dear. These portals can lead to various places. Some simply to other parts of our world, others to... different realities. Parallel worlds, if you will. Some are wonderful, others terrifying. But all are dangerous for those who are not prepared."

Lucas felt a shiver run down his spine. "Does... does this have anything to do with our families? With the Blackwoods and the Luminosas?"

Mrs. Vega looked at them for a long time before answering. "Your families are linked to Ravenswood in a way that you're only beginning to understand. Generations ago, a pact was made. A pact that shaped the destiny of this town and your lineages."

She paused, as if weighing her next words. "But I must warn you. You are not the only ones seeking answers. There are other people... less benevolent, who covet the secrets of Ravenswood. People ready to commit atrocities to get what they want."

Lucas felt fear rising in him. "What do you mean?"

"In the past," Mrs. Vega continued, her voice laden with gravity, "there have been incidents. People have disappeared, unexplained accidents have occurred. Always linked to the quest for these secrets and the reckless use of sound portals."

Aria took Lucas's hand, seeking comfort. "What should we do?" she asked in a trembling voice.

Mrs. Vega looked at them with compassion. "Continue to learn, to explore. But be careful. The forces at play are greater than you can imagine. And remember: the sound portals are only part of the mystery of Ravenswood."

As they were about to leave, Mrs. Vega stopped them one last time. "Remember," she said, "in the darkest moments, it's often the light that guides us. And sometimes, it's in the darkness that we find our greatest strength."

Lucas hesitated for a moment, then turned to the old lady. "Mrs. Vega," he said in a slightly trembling voice, "please, could you... not tell my father about our visit here?"

A small laugh escaped Mrs. Vega's wrinkled lips, her eyes twinkling with amusement behind her glasses. "Oh, my boy," she replied with a mischievous smile, "don't worry about that. I'm not crazy, you know. If your father learned that I told you all this, I'd be in trouble too. Your little excursion will remain our secret."

Lucas and Aria exchanged a look of relief mixed with curiosity. It was clear that Mrs. Vega knew much more than she let on about the complex relationships between the families of Ravenswood.

They left the bookshop, their minds whirling with information and questions. They walked in silence for a moment, trying to assimilate everything they had just learned about the sound portals and the dangers that awaited them.
