Milk PoV :
Love lay sound asleep in Milk's room, her face softened in repose after a tumultuous evening of tears and heartache. Milk watched over her with a mixture of tenderness and sorrow, knowing that she might soon have to let go of the person who meant the world to her.
After Love had calmed down, Milk had gently tucked her into bed, feeling an ache in her heart as she observed the traces of tears on Love's cheeks. Seeing Love so distraught over her misunderstanding with Tu had shaken Milk deeply, even though she knew there was nothing romantic between them. Tu was a supportive friend who respected Milk's feelings for Love, and they were merely discussing pottery designs.
Milk had called Gun immediately after ensuring Love was asleep. Despite the tension between them, she knew it was crucial to clarify things. Gun's voice had been sharp and defensive over the phone, reflecting his lingering anger.
"What do you want?" Gun's voice had cut through the line, tinged with hostility that Milk recognized all too well.
"Let's meet at the park. We need to talk," Milk had replied firmly, her tone leaving no room for argument.
"Why should I? I don't need to talk anything with you!" Gun had retorted, his frustration evident.
"If you truly care about Love, meet me there," Milk had insisted before Gun grudgingly agreed, setting the time and place.
As Milk stood in the park now, waiting for Gun, her mind was in turmoil. She knew Gun resented her presence in Love's life, believing she stood in the way of their happiness. But Milk also understood that Love needed to make her own choices, even if it meant heartache for herself.
Gun arrived with a tense demeanor, his face clouded with unresolved anger. "What do you want to talk about?" he demanded brusquely, wasting no time.
"About Love," Milk replied evenly, meeting his gaze squarely. "Why did you say such hurtful things to her?"
Gun's eyes flashed with frustration. "Because it's true! She wants me but can't let go of you! She needs to face that!"
Milk felt a pang of pain at his words, knowing they held a grain of truth. "She sees me as a friend, Gun. Nothing more," she asserted firmly, her voice trembling with emotion. "I've never crossed that line, and I never will."
Gun scoffed, his anger palpable. "She might think that, but you—you confuse her! You make her doubt what she feels for me!"
Milk's heart sank at his accusation, the weight of his words bearing down on her. "Fine," she said, her voice strained with emotion. "Give me a few months. I'll distance myself from both of you. Let Tu handle things at the pottery shop. I'll do it for Love's sake."
Gun regarded her skeptically. "Can you really do that? I don't trust a word you say," he retorted bitterly. "But fine, I'll give you five months. Let's see if you can stick to your promise."
With that, Gun turned abruptly and walked away, leaving Milk standing alone in the park, her heart heavy with resignation and pain. She made her way back to her apartment slowly, tears streaming down her cheeks unchecked.
Inside her apartment, Milk couldn't hold back her emotions any longer. She sank to the floor, tears flowing freely as the reality of her decision settled in. She knew that distancing herself from Love would be excruciating, but she believed it was necessary for Love's happiness.
She looked at Love, still asleep in her room, and a surge of love and longing washed over her. "I'll cherish every moment with you, Love," she whispered to herself, her voice choked with emotion. "For these next five months, I'll make sure you find your happiness, even if it means losing you in the end."
Milk brushed a gentle hand over Love's cheek, her touch tender yet laden with sorrow. She knew that letting go would be the hardest thing she'd ever done, but she was willing to endure it if it meant Love could finally be truly happy.
"I love you," Milk murmured softly, knowing Love couldn't hear her. With a heavy heart, she rose to her feet and walked away from Love's room, steeling herself for the inevitable goodbye that loomed on the horizon.
