A Coffee Date Served With The Start Of Something

"Holly".

Holly turns her head for a voice calling her name. It's hot exec, the senior executive of the company, with a nickname Holly calls her but a name that could see her marched out the door real quick. Tee is calling from her office door.

"Do you have a minute?"

A little bit flustered and surprised by the announcement, the women have only ever exchanged hellos and how are you in corridor, and two encounters in the lift. One encounter was an awkward moment of Tee checking herself out in the large glass walls of the elevator, a little embarrassed that she had been sprung, but Holly ensured that every single person that steps into those lifts does it. She's only human. The second encounter was an exchange of the temperature of the office, Tee was a little chilly leaving her office but Holly was warm as her desk got the afternoon sun.

Holly responded to Tee's request with an "of course". But trying not to sound too nervous about what this chat might be about. Holly followed Tee into her office, sneaking in a quick opportunity to check out her ass before Tee sat behind her desk.

"Please take a seat honey".

Tee spoke first. That little honey from Tee maybe meant this chat wasn't scary as Holly was making out to be. Tee continued

"How's your day going so far?"

Holly nodded her head, dropping her upper lip

"Oh yeah. It's a little bit chaotic day. But nothing I can't handle".

Holly was sitting on her hands, trying to avoid fidgeting and looking nervous. Tee exchanged a friendly and reassuring smile.

"That's actually why I brought you in. So I chose the design of this office so I can be in a spot to be watching the office as a whole. From my chair here, I have a chance to look across all that is happening out there. And dare I say, also hear what is happening out there."

Tee offered an opportunity for Holly to turn around and see exactly what Tee's point of view is from her office. Holly just nodded her head, agreeing to seeing what Tee see's.

"Part of what I am hearing is much of your team is quite frustrated with some of the leadership coming out of your department. I have my suspicions to who it is, but I'd like to hear more from you as to what is going on. As you may have heard I am about to move on from the business. I have taken a whole lot of pride in building this department and I would be so disappointed to see it crumble. We don't have many female voices around here and I think you have the capability to be that voice for women around here and for more coming through the door. I was hoping we could make time early next week to grab a coffee. Get to know each other a bit more".

Holly had spent a number of years working in the corporate world, but was always led to believe that the executive level was untouchable. You were simply another head count in the room and another number in the business to them. They were untouchable and you didn't interact. Just a hello and goodbye. Holly was surprised by Tee's openness.

"I would really like that. Thanks very much".

Holly and Tee exchanged sweet smiles. Tee answered.

"Perfect. Let me send you a meeting invite for Monday next week. Let me know if the time works well".

Monday comes around, and what would usually be a work from home day, Holly and Tee meet at a cafe between each of their houses. Holly was a little nervous for her chat. She hadn't had much to do with Tee, but hadn't always heard the nicest remarks about her. Tee was often described as 'harsh' or 'tough' or 'intimidating'. Holly could see the intimidating. Tee had this presence to her that made people a little edgy, but I guess she was the boss and she held the power. Holly, a very fierce feminist, also saw it is a power move Tee needed because she worked in a company largely ran by men, sat on an executive board level as the only female, and often needed a strong voice to even just be heard. A trait described as bitchy for a female, but tough for a man. Holly was interested in hearing how Tee got to where she is today and what her future plans were.
