Chapter 5

Now is the time that we put this brat into her place. I can't wait to boss this little girl around for the rest of her days *laughs evilly to self. *

*Flashback to the day before*

While Alaina was still asleep, her father had called me to come to his office. I was obviously confused; I mean it was the middle of the night and the alpha and I aren't close by any meaning of the word. To be honest, I wasn't one hundred percent sure he even knew my name. But I figured that as long as I was going to be there, I may as well make use of it. See, Nick and I were friends growing up, but something changed us into enemies. That something is Alaina. We both wanted the title of being the right-hand man to the alpha; by right hand man, I kind of mean like a prince. Except the right-hand man gets to do so much more, even marry Alaina. And she would make the perfect little trophy wife.

I have wanted her forever-though in recent years the desire has grown stronger-but she's been betrothed to Nick since birth. Which, honestly, never made sense to me. My family is of royal blood, and Nick's isn't. Married to Alaina, our bloodline would be even stronger, and we could save the pack from dying. Nick couldn't do that. Also, there's the minor detail of the fact that Nick isn't even in love with her!!! He's in love with the sister of our greatest enemy, no less! Leave it to nick to go big or go home. I've decided that Nick needs to be told on, and who better to tell than the alpha? I arrived at the alpha's home and was shown into the living room by a servant to wait.

I hear yelling coming from a different room and that can't be good. The day hasn't even begun-technically speaking-and the alpha is already yelling. A few moments later, he comes striding into the living room; he's muttering to himself, and his fists are clenched. My stomach begins to feel a little uneasy, like something is about to happen.

Still, I bow and greet him.

"Oh. Will." The alpha has a blank look on his face, like this is the first notice of me he's taken.

"Yes. Thank you for coming. I'm sorry it had to be so early, but it's urgent and really can't wait."

I can hear the anger still in his voice from whatever just happened, but I can see he's trying to be calm. I know as soon as I tell on Nick, he's going to be mad again. I almost decide to wait, at least until he's finished with whatever urgent business, he has but I just can't.

"Nicks in love with the sister of your enemy!"

Oh my god. Did I really just blurt that out? To the alpha? Yep. I did. The alphas eyes grow wide and get blacker.

"W-what?" He says in a deep, threatening voice.

"This is news to me. Tell me, do you know his intentions?"

Now that I can see the alpha isn't going to kill me for telling him this, I smirk. I think I'm starting to enjoy this.

"I know he doesn't want to marry Alaina, and that he will try to get out of it to marry the other girl. I'm afraid I don't know her name."

"Hmm...well that's a bit of a problem, since my dear enemy has two sisters."

I start to panic. The alpha can't be disappointed in me! That'll ruin everything!

"I know he's already proposed to her," I quickly say, trying to save myself by offering up another piece of information.

Maybe this will get my foot in the door to get the title. I'll do whatever it takes at this point.

The alpha smiles a genuine smile at me. "Well now! This is right hand man material! Tell me, would you be willing to betray your friend and do anything?"
