“Ellie,” Eleanor groaned and rubbed her head.

She looked up to see her mother smiling sadly at her. Eleanor groaned and flipped over so she could maybe avoid her mothers questions.

“Eleanor, will you please tell me what happened last night?” Melissa asked her daughter.

Eleanor sighed and pushed her blankets off her. She sat up and ran a hand through her hair.

“I… it’s complicated,” she told her mother.

Melissa sighed and sat down on the bed. She took her daughter's hands in her own. She just wanted the truth.

“Then explain it.”

Eleanor looked at her mother for a moment before looking down at her hands. She wanted to tell her mother everything.

She wanted to tell her all about the hunters, the alpha, and her accidentally killing someone.

She wanted to tell it all. She just wanted it off her chest. She wanted it all to be gone. She didn’t want to be like this.

“Ellie?” her mother said after a long moment of silence.

Eleanor finally looked up at her mother and gave her a small smile.

“I was delirious last night. I don’t know what attacked me and Jackson,” she told her mother. “I just ran. I was scared.”

Melissa smiled sadly and guilty at her daughter. She pulled her into a hug.

And Ellie had needed that hug. She needed it more than anything at that moment. She needed someone to comfort her.

“I get that, I’m sorry I wasn’t there,” she told her daughter, and rubbed her back comfortingly.

Eleanor shook her head and placed it on her mothers shoulder. She didn’t like that her mother felt guilty for not being there. It made her sad.

“Please don’t feel guilty. It’s not your fault,” she told her mother and pulled back from the hug. “I’m just glad that me or Jackson were totally hurt.”

Melissa nodded and put her hands on the side of her daughter’s head. She smiled softly.

“I understand,” she whispered. “Do you want to stay home today?”

Eleanor looked a little displeased. “Today is a parent-teacher conference. And… I mean, maybe?”

“You always go to school,” she told her daughter. “Just stay home today, okay?”
