“Rain falls because the clouds can no longer handle its weight ; just like tears fall because the heart just cannot handle the pain.”

Prologue ♥

Reiah sat on the window ledge staring out into the vast darkness. Rain lashed down the windowpane and a strong wind howled outside forced it's self down the chimney. She shivered with the cold then wiped a few salty tears from her face red face with her jumper's sleeve.

"I love you." She whispered up to the sky, trying to contact her dad in the heavens.

The phone shrilled but Reiah left it to go to voice mail. "Hey, Reiah, it's Haley. Just wanted to check if you were all right because I've not spoken to you in a while. I'll call back in a minute because I know you are there. I saw your Facebook status. Love you."

Reiah let out a groan, she didn't want to talk to anyone about her father's murder, and she had enough with the police asking her questions about it. Reiah knew who had killed her father but she had sworn to not to tell or even think about telling, because they would come for her just like they did with her father. She knew too much.

She got up from the window ledge, and paced around the room running her fingers over the furniture.

The phone rang again.

Reiah picked it up on the third ring.

"Hello?" She murmured.

"Hey, Reiah. Why ignore my first call, it's not like we've been talking all the time." Her friend babbled on.

"Sorry, I'm just not in the mood to talk with anyone right now." Reiah said tucking a loose strand of chestnut hair behind her ear.

"Oh, do you want to come over tonight, to sleep round? It might help you keep your mind off of… Eh, well you know what I mean." Haley said.

"Yeah, that would be great. I'll leave a note for my mum. She got called out to work this morning but she won't be back till late tonight."

"Okay, I'll come by to get you in twenty, bye."

Reiah held the phone in her hand for a few seconds, twisting her fingers round the chord. Then she put the phone down pulling her fingers free. She wiped her nose on her jumper's sleeve and then grimaced at the mess she'd made on it. "Ew." she mumbled pulling the jumper off over her head.

She ran up the stairs and into her bedroom flopping down onto her bed and then pulling out a note book from underneath her pillow. She opened the note book then read the first page. It was basically her diary where she wrote everything from how she was feeling to stories.

The stories she wrote were about another place where are the fairytale creatures existed. She wished they were real in this life, not just in her head.

She then got back up from the bed, shoving the book into a bag. And then she headed into the bathroom, to grab a few things to go to Haley's house with.

Reiah glanced at her reflection for a few seconds taking in her green/ blue eyes. She licked her finger and then ran it underneath her eye trying to make the mascara lines go away, but she knew it was useless.

Reiah's hands suddenly grew sticky with sweat, are her forehead was beaded with droplets. Somehow, she knew her time was short. She wrapped her arms round her waist and closed her eyes. "Go away; I'm not going to tell Haley, she can't keep secrets. I know it."

"You can't be trusted with the knowledge you possess. After all, you are just a child." The voice said. Reiah kept her eyes closed clenching her fists into balls.

"Where are you?"

"Behind you."

Reiah jumped, her heart was beating horribly fast, making her feel faint. She didn't dare look at her father's killer. She knew what they would do if she did.

"You remember what I told you then? Don't look at me."

She nodded.

"Good."

It was silent.

Reiah opened her eyes for a few seconds. Huge mistake.

The killer held up a gun and stepped towards her.

"I'll call the police." Reiah stammered.

"It'll take them ten minutes to get here, and I'll be long gone by then. As will you."

The killer laid a finger on the trigger. “This is all it will take... a slip of a finger."

She fumbled around in her pocket for her phone and dialed 999.

"Hello, there is someone in my house trying to kill me. Help, please."

A sudden rush of pain stabbed Reiah's chest.

She fell to the ground gasping in pain.

Then it went black.
