“Perhaps our eyes need to be washed by our tears once in a while, so that we can see Life with a clearer view again.”
Chapter two. ♥
I shoved my school books into my bag whilst trying to stuff cold toast down my throat without choking myself to death.
"Heather, hurry up, we need to go or you'll be late for school," my mum called to me.
"I know, I know. Give it a rest." I said standing up from my chair pushing it across the cobble flooring making a horrible high pitched scraping sound.
"For god's sake Heather. Be more careful!" Mum yelled at me.
"I'm trying to!" I muttered under my breath grabbing my bag and walked out of the door towards the bus stop. It's a ten minute walk to the bus stop since it's in the village not in the middle of nowhere like where we live.
I've been trying to tell my mum that it's not good living out here anymore and it's too hard for us.
But she insists we stay because she feels like she would leaving dad. She's always been like that since he was killed by thing. An animal attack apparently. I don't believe it was an animal.
But, before he died, he used to tell me about the mythical creatures that live around here. Things about vampires, werewolves, mermaids, fairies and more. I believed every word he said, and I still do.
There was once a story that he told me, but I can't really remember all of it. I wrote it down once, but I'm not sure where it's gone.
It's been 4 years since my father's death. He died when I was 12 years old and Laurel was 16. She's not here anymore. I mean, she's moved out to go to university in Oxford. She's training to be a High school teacher. When she's done with that, she's taking a gap year to travel across the US with her boyfriend, Josh. They've been together for 3 years, so it's pretty serious.
I ran up the road trying to not fall over whilst attempting to fling my bag on my shoulder properly.
I succeeded after the 3rd attempt and then ran faster. If I missed the bus, then I'd be walking 17 miles to school since the car broke down. Which I really didn't want to have to do.
When I got to the bus stop, all the usual people were there. I was relieved to see their faces for once, so I didn't have to walk to school.
There was a new kid standing on his own in the corner underneath a tree, shaded from the sun.
A few girls were in gaggles near him giggling, probably because they thought he was cute. Which he was. Kinda.
One of the girls plucked up the courage to go talk to him, but he just ignored her staring up at the grey sky.
There was something about him that made him look different from the other boys, even though they had roughly the same hair cut and wore the same clothes.
He kept looking at me, staring into my eyes like he was trying to figure something out from them.
I turned away, stuffing my converses on the pavement but I could feel his stare on my back chilling my skin.
Something was really off with him. It was weird how he only stared at me... no one else.
A few minutes later, the bus pulled up on the side of the road and we all bustled onto it. I bee lined for the back of the bus where my friend's usually are. My best mate Raine had saved a seat for me. Bless.
I smiled at my friends as I sat down and had some paper shoved into my hands.
"My English assignment." Raine said to me. I stared at her blankly. "Ugh, remember, you asked to see it because you needed help with it?"
"Oh right. Yeah. Sorry, I forgot." I mumbled shoving the paper into my bag.
"Careful, Heather." Raine said rolling her eyes at me.
"Sorry," I mumbled again.
"What's up? You seem... disturbed."
"Nothing" I lied.
"Heather, you are a terrible liar. Now tell me!"
"Yeah, Heather, tell us" Alice chipped in blushing.
"Don't worry... It's okay." I said trying to lie well.
"Please..?" Raine begged me.
"Fine... It's that new kid."
"Who?"
"Him" I whispered jerking my head in the new boy's direction.
"What about him?" Raine asked.
"Wow... He is cute." Alice giggled twiddling her blond hair in her fingers. Alice is the giggly girly one of us all, she flirts with anything that breathes and is a boy. Literally.
"Shut up, Alice. I know he is." I swatted her quickly then smiled. "And he's just creeping me out. He keeps staring at me." I shrugged my shoulders and let out a sigh.
"Probably because he thinks you are super cute." Raine smiled at me her ginger hair falling over her eyes.
"Pft, yeah right." I muttered playing with the tips of my hair.
"Just don't let it worry you. If he keeps doing it, I'll go talk to him and tell him to quit it. Okay?"
"Okay" I told Raine.
We sat in silence for a few minutes which made me start thinking about the new kid.
Who was he? Why was he staring at me? Where did he come from? Why do I keep getting weird vibes from him?
"Hey, Heather," Maddie called me from the other side of the bus. "What we doing this weekend?"
"I dunno. Any ideas?" I replied shrugging.
"Sleep over at mine?" Maddie suggested.
"Yeah, sounds good. See a movie as well?" Alice said.
"Yeah" we all agreed.
The bus stopped and let some other kids on, Lois and Elle, more of our friends, got on the bus as well. They headed to the back of the bus where we sad and Elle took the seat next to me.
"Hey" Lois smiled at us.
"Oh my god... Who is the new guy near the front?" Elle asked us.
I shrugged my shoulders. "Don't know, but he keeps staring at me." The new boy turned around from his seat and glared at me. "What?" I stuttered shocked. How could he have heard us? There were at least 30 other kids on the bus talking and laughing in their friendship groups. I could barely hear what Elle was saying to me and she was sat right next to me.
The whole bus suddenly went silence waiting for the boy's reply.
"Nothing... I'm Ellis since you don't know." His voice was cold with no expression which scared me a bit. He didn't have the Scottish accent so he wasn't from around here.
"Oh... Okay. Sorry." I mumbled covering my eyes with my fringe.
"It’s quite alright... Heather," he said. The sides of his mouth broke into a smile.
