                         (Chester's pov)

A nervousness crept into my body, making swallowing difficult. Why was he risking his life for a dumb case? Just today hadn't we almost died up in that attic?  Yet Parker continued to throw himself at the danger, which (however admirable) was completely out of character for him.

"Are you sure about this?" I asked anxiously.

"Bro it's gonna be fine." He reassured me placing his hand on my shoulder.

I tried for a smile, which seemed to satisfy him as he removed his hand to my dismay.  But that's when a thought crossed my mind.

"We should review the footage of Nicole 'treating' her husband before you go upstairs. So you're better prepared." He nodded in agreement to my words, and we sat down with side by side to review the footage.

Although the initial shock had worn off the scene was still a horrid thing to see. Her husband gurgling, choking on the foam spewing forth from his throat, as she watched blankly. But what caught my eye this time around was the vial. Full of a transparent, almost shiny liquid.

It was the same stuff that had dripped from the monsters teeth when it had tried to eat me. That's when it clicked. I turned to face Parker, full of excitement at my theory.

"Bro, why are you smiling? This is fucked up. She was just trying to help her husband, and now she's probably traumatized." He spoke with a tone brimming with pity.

"I finally understand! That shit Nicole gave him she harvested from that monster. It was pooling in that things mouth when it tried to bite me. She's keeping it upstairs to collect its 'venom." I beamed.

He paused considering this.  "I guess that's plausible. But what's her motive? I still can't view this as anything more than Nicole providing him medical treatment that ended in a freak accident."

"Well maybe we can find that out in those papers?" I suggested.

"Yeah that's true," He laughed, "You switched opinions real fast."

"I still don't like it, but at least we're actually looking for something specific now instead of grasping at straws."

"Fair enough, bro." He shrugged standing up and stretching, "Well it's getting late. If we're gonna do this, we better do it now." I nodded in agreement, and off we went.

"I just hope Claire will recognize all the work we've done." He announced absentmindedly, as he reached for the door.

"Uh, ok?" What did that have to do with anything?

A chill went up my spine upon entering the room again. The whole house was freezing, but it felt about 10 degrees cooler. If Parker noticed anything, he didn't show it.

We made our way to the closet, trudging through the piles of garbage to the door. Although I wouldn't be going upstairs, I still wanted to be near him. In case of emergencies.

'At least we might actually help someone.' I considered in an attempt to control my anxiety's. The ladder creaked menacingly, as he climbed. As if the rotting wood could choose to dump him at any moment.
