(Chester's pov)
I glanced nervously at Parker, as he usually did the talking but his mouth seemed glued shut. The tension grew as neither party spoke and merely stared blankly at each other for a full 10 seconds before I opened my mouth to speak.
"Hello uh- you contacted us about some anomalies within your home? I'm Chester by the-" I was cut off by Parker who finally seem to find his voice,
"I'm Parker!" He said thrusting out his hand with a big dopey grin plastered on his face. She gave him a disgusted look as his face fell, and turned back to me without shaking his hand.
"I'm Claire." She said extending her hand to me. I took it cautiously, with a nervous glance to Parker whose expression hardened.
"Yes we read your email. Don't worry we are going to help you. Now would you want to sit down for an interview?" I said starting to feel more confident leading the conversation.
She agreed, and led us into her room seating us in beanbag chairs that surrounded her desk. As we set up our filming equipment for the interview I realized the dead smell that seemed so prevalent throughout the whole house was greatly diminished in here. In fact the whole room was in complete contrast with the rest of the house.
The dim flickering lighting of the hall was replaced with the soft glow of an incandescent bulb illuminating the whole room. It was decorated with a color palette of pinks, yellows, and reds giving it a a warm feeling especially when compared to the cold gray tones of the living room.
Still it couldn't escape the stained ceiling and goo that dripped down dotting everything in the room with little black spots. Still it beat the rest of the house by a mile, and I was relieved to get a break from the rancid stench that permeated through the dark halls.
As I reached to turn on the camera I glanced at Parker who was staring absentmindedly at Claire. I silently cursed myself for his audacity, and sat back hoping he'd get a grip and pay attention to me. Well, not me, but the investigation.
Still as I pressed record and turned to face Claire he seemed entranced by her. I sighed in annoyance realizing I would be leading this interview.
"So Claire? Could you recap for us what had been happening?" I spoke up snapping Parker out of his daydream as he sat up straighter.
"Well, a few months ago these black stains began to bleed through the ceiling, and eventually started to drip this black liquid." She paused and I nodded signaling for her to elaborate.
"Subsequently my dad soon fell ill with a terrible cough and has been bed ridden for a few weeks now." She said chewing on her lip in an act I took as her trying to repress tears, as when she spoke again it was in a raspy voice.
"Also at night I hear scratching from above," She said glancing up, "One night it kept getting louder till it sounded right outside my door. My mom says I'm just imagining it. But I'm not imagining the scratches etched into the wood." I waited for her to continue, but when she didn't I spoke up as Parker glared at me.
"I'm so sorry to hear that. We'll set up some cameras if that's okay with you and review the footage in the morning to see what we find." I said a little unsure looking briefly at Parker for reassurance only to be met with a cold scoff as he focused his attention on the wall.
Feeling a little hurt at Parker's indifference and even hostility, I took a deep breath and returned my attention to Claire.
"Would you mind showing us around a bit? I- we'd," I corrected, "love to get a better scope of the problem and figure out where we're sleeping."
"Yeah come on." She said rising and offering up her hand to help me up.
