The Collision

September, 2017
London.

The afternoon sun was shining through the  window casting a golden hue across the library. Sara was sitting at the table right next to the window. For most of the time, she kept looking out at the vast garden visible from the window. She saw students sitting under the tree, studying or just relaxing. The new term at UCL had just begun. There wasn't much academic pressure as of now. Sara decided to spend some time in the library, reading some papers her professor had suggested. But she barely read anything. Sara was missing being home. Arjun's birthday was fast approaching and Sara wanted to make it special. She was thinking of flying to India for a day. Her mind was in constant dilemma, whether to fly to India or not. It was going to be very hectic but she wanted to surprise Arjun. The thoughts in her mind were driving her crazy. She finally closed the journal with a sigh and took out her laptop to book the tickets. 

“Let's do this” she said to herself and booked the tickets.

Sara told her parents about her visit to India and made sure they kept it a secret. Arjun's birthday was on 24th September and Sara was going to reach Mumbai around midnight. She made sure her parents and some of her cousins who were going to be in Mumbai kept Arjun awake until she reached home.

Midnight, 24th September, 2017
Mumbai. 

Arjun, along with some of his cousins, was playing video games. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Arjun looked a bit surprised and skeptical as to who must have come this late. 

“I guess it must be someone we know or else the security won't permit them” one of Arjun's sisters said. 

“Go open the door na Arjun” his brother said. 

“Waah. It's my birthday aur mujhe hi kaam karna hoga” Arjun said while getting up from the couch. 

He opend the door and his jaw dropped. Sara was standing in front of him, holding a cake. 

“Happy Birthday baby brother!!’ Sara said cheerfully. 

Arjun was too shocked to say anything. He couldn't just believe his sister was standing in front of him.

“Say something dumbo,” Sara said, nudging his feet with her own. 

“What are you doing here?” Arjun managed to say. 

“First let me come in” Sara said and got inside the living room. 

Arjun and Sara's cousins got up and greeted her. Sachin and Anjali also came downstairs to greet their daughter.

After greeting everyone and settling down on the sofa, Arjun asked her, “why no one informed me about this?”

“Um, because it was a surprise baby bro” Sara said, pulling Arjun's cheeks. 

“Ahhh, Sara that hurts” Arjun said, pulling her hands away. 

“Look at this barbie doll” Sara said and everyone laughed. 

“No but seriously, you came here just for my birthday?” Arjun asked. 

“Yes. I mean I was missing you and mom - dad. I thought what better occasion than your birthday to meet everyone” Sara replied.

“Awww. That is so sweet,” Arjun said, hugging her. 

The chatter went on for some more time before everyone went to sleep. Sara was tired from the journey so the moment she lay on the bed, she slept.
