"How do I look?" Avery twirls in front of me, her long green summer dress flowing as she spins, a huge smile plastered on her face.
"Amazing," I tell her, standing up to get a good look at her outfit. "I don't think I can even compare." I'm wearing a deep orange V-neck top, a dark denim miniskirt, and short black cowboy boots. Avery shakes her head profusely. "Liar. You look amazing."
Tonight Avery's uncle invited her over for dinner at his house and she asked if I could come too. Geno was now aware that Avery's roommate was the same girl who would be attending his team's events for the next little while, so he agreed enthusiastically. Apparently he has a big house about 15 minutes away from campus and Avery says his dinners always slap. "How are you going to do your hair?" She asks me, dragging me into the bathroom. We only had half an hour left before we had to leave and we both had only done our makeup and outfits. I went with a classy clean makeup look, skipping the mascara today so my dark green eyes were more visible. I added bronzer on top of my tan skin to enhance its glow. Avery had a winged eyeliner on and she even went with a bold red lip. It looked amazing.
"I think I'm going to do it in a half up half down," I say, grabbing my blowout brush to quickly tame the frizz before tying half my hair up. I left out my baby hairs and a couple strands on the side of my head. Avery watched me, amazed. "I don't get how you do your hair so effortlessly. It takes me forever to do mine." I turn to her, holding my blowout brush out to her. "Borrow this. I promise you it's a lifesaver."
"Thanks bae, hopefully it makes my hair look even half as good as yours." She runs it through her thick auburn hair, taming its strands and turning it so her hair has a nice curl at the ends. She smiles, in awe of what her hair is turning out to look like. "This thing is so good!" She raves.
I smile back at her, happy I could fix her hair issue. "I'm glad. You can use it whenever you want," I promise.
"You're the best!" She replies. As she finishes up her hair, I clean up the makeup sprawled across the counter and walk out of the bathroom, heading for my side of the room. I notice my phone lit up lying on my bed. I got a text message. I unlock my phone and see that it's Melissa, asking how the practice went yesterday. I text back, telling her it was great and I got the notes she instructed me to get. She replies almost instantly, thanking me and reminding me of the girls' conditioning session tomorrow at 10am. I purse my lips together, slightly annoyed as I text back 'I'll be there!". I probably should be staying in tonight considering I'll have to get up early tomorrow for that, but oh well. Avery comes out of the bathroom, grabbing her purse from the hook on the back of the door.
"Ready?"
"Yeah, let me grab my bag." I reach over to the space beside my bed and retrieve my black shoulder bag. I follow her out of the dorm room and residence building to the nearest parking lot, where she parks her car. Avery drives a white Toyota Corolla and she's obsessed with it. She told me one night that she named it Cassidy after a character in a book she read.
"Cassidy awaits!" She exclaims excitedly, quickening her pace as we approach the car. She unlocks it and I get in the passenger seat, buckling myself in as Avery starts the car and connects her phone to aux. She turns to me, pushing her big hair behind her ear so she can see me. "What music we feeling?"
"Better be my girl Chappell roan," I instruct her. Avery smiles big, agreeing. She pushes shuffle on Chappell's discography and starts driving as the opening notes to 'red wine supernova' come on. Avery starts screaming the lyrics as we exit campus and start driving on the country roads. I join in.
After a few more songs, we eventually pull into a long driveway leading up to a big house. There are at least 4 very nice cars in the freshly paved driveway and the garden wrapped around the front of the house has beautiful pink and purple flowers. The house itself, a 2 story white brick mansion, stood tall and the windows shone with the sun's light reflecting off it. "Oh wow," I say to Avery as she parks the car, turning it off. "I know right," she replies, "they pay him real good for that coaching job." I laugh, following her as she walks up to the front door and knocks. It's opened right away and Geno smiles as he sees us. "Hey girls! I was wondering when you'd be here!" He exclaims. Avery grins. "Relax, we're only 5 minutes late. You know we had to make sure our outfit games were on point," she says sarcastically, twirling around so Geno can see her dress. He claps sarcastically and I laugh.
