I woke up to my friend group spamming my phone, what the hell is going on?

📱: "hello guys, this is Maddie's mother. I don't want to bring this news out but Maddie has passed away from a car crash."
📱: "omg are you okay?? How are you holding up?"
📱: "pls say your joking."
Reply: "what?.."

Tears immediately fell down my face. What the fuck Maddie, why did you have to die.

📱: "hey Adeline, just wanna let you know that we are gonna go to the fair on Tuesday, at 6 pm to watch the sunset. The fair is so fun at night."
Reply: "ok"
📱: "you okay??"
Reply: "mhm"
📱: "you sure.."
Reply: "oh my god Bryce I'm fine. Just drop it."
📱: "I don't believe you"
Reply: "Bryce please. Drop it."

A couple minutes past and someone knocks at my door, I opened my door and I saw Bryce. I couldn't help but cry. I covered my face with my hands as I sobbed. Bryce closed the door at her came in and immediately hugged me. "Sshhh it's okay Adeline, I got you." He said, walking over to the couch and sitting down, still hugging me.
He rubbed my back and didn't let go of our hug.

I usually get tired after I cry, so I ended up falling asleep in his lap.

Bryce's POV:

I didn't know what was wrong so I just hugged her and never let go. She eventually fell asleep in my lap. She looked so cute. I continued to hug her close, watching her every move to make sure she's okay. This is the first time she's ever broken down like this, what possibly could've happened? Did someone die or fall ill? Did she get cancer or something? I was clueless.
