SCENE THREE

RUSSIA: 1927: COMMUNIST HEADQUARTERS

(RASPUTIN is sitting hunched, his back facing the audience. GLEB enters. He is suddenly shocked.)

GLEB

Father.

(RASPUTIN turns around, revealing the haggard face he had)

GLEB

What are you doing here, you must be in bed.

RASPUTIN

How long has it been? Since the Bolsheviks raided the palace?

GLEB

(hesitant)

Fourteen years, father.

RASPUTIN

And how long have you been planting the revolution?

GLEB

Since last year, father.

(GLEB picks up some rags lying around RASPUTIN.)

GLEB (cont.)

You should really be in bed father.

(But RASPUTIN grabs him by the arm.)

RASPUTIN

I sense her. The last Romanov.

(GLEB pulls away his hand.)

GLEB

Don't be ridiculous, Anastasia is dead.

RASPUTIN

Then why do I hear the rumors of the lost princess Anastasia?

GLEB

They are just rumors.

RASPUTIN

My dear son, why don't you think I am getting better?

(GLEB is quiet.)
