Vote/CommentK'Mari looked around her room and sighed it was that time of the year it was that day. She was on her way to Spelman college. She was leaving her life and starting a new one. She didn't want to leave her grandmother but her grandmother was making her go to college. K'Mari wanted to take a year off but her grandmother told her no, told her don't put her life on hold because of her. She was going be fine. K'Mari just didn't want to leave home. She was finally about to be on her own, she was so scared. She been waiting for this moment all summer but it's here and she wish it wasn't.
"K'Mari come on girl I have to get to work," Jayceon said walking into K'Mari room. When he saw her sitting on the bed with her head down he knew it was something wrong with her. He sighed and sat next to her.
"I don't want to go Jayceon, I'm not ready to be on my own I can't go." K'Mari cried in his arms. Jayceon rubbed her back and shook his head. He knew K'Mari didn't want to leave her grandmother or even her house. K'Mari wasn't the turn-up type of girl. She was the type of girl that didn't leave the house unless she had to. She ate junk and watched cartoons most of the time. Leaving for her was going be hard. He knew it but she said she was ready.
"K'Mari it's not going be so hard when you get there, you got opportunity baby girl don't be scared to explore the world, you got some things to prove come on let's get you to school," Jayceon said wiping her tears and kissing her forehead. K'Mari looked around one last time and got up. She smiled at Jay and walked to the door of her room.
"I guess it is time for me to see what this cold world is like," K'Mari said grabbing her purse. Jay smiled at her and hugged her. He looked down at her and she looked up at him.
"I love you K'Mari and your ass better call me every night," Jay said talking to her like he was her daddy. Which K'Mari never knew. She laughed and hugged him.
"I will Jay now come on before I change my mind again," K'Mari said pulling away from him. They walked out her room and downstairs. K'Mari walked into the kitchen where she saw her grandmother baking away. That how her grandmother copes with her feelings. She was a strong woman and that where K'Mari got it from. Jay and her grandmother are the only two people that every saw her cry.
"You guys leaving already?" Her grandmother asked wiping her hands on her apron. K'Mari just attack her with a hug. She was so sad she was leaving her grandmother. The only mother figure she had since her mother death. The woman who taught her how to be a woman. Self-respect and dignity.
"Grandma I love you so much and I just want to thank you for everything," K'Mari said as she held her grandma. She didn't want to let go. She had to get all this now she didn't know when the next time she was going be able to actually be back home. She has to get a job and everything.
"K'Mari I love you too but can you let me go I'm 65 years old and I can barely breathe." Her grandmother said trying to pull K'Mari off of her. K'Mari let go and kissed her grandmother's cheek.
"I'm going make sure to call you each and every day," K'Mari said smiling. Her grandmother smiled too. She was so happy for her granddaughter. She knew her daughter would be so happy for K'Mari. She a beautiful woman.
"I'm going make sure I answer, love you K'Mari now go before you're late for whatever you have to do." She said waving her off. She didn't want K'Mari to see her cry. She was being strong for her even though she wanted to break down.
"Ok, I'm leaving now," K'Mari said grabbing a muffin and walking out the kitchen. She walked out the house with Jay behind her. They got in his car and K'Mari looked at her boxes in the back. "I didn't know I had that many things." She said putting on her seatbelt. Jay laughed and looked back.
