My gaze finally averted up to his and stayed there. I looked at his light brown eyes that was boring a hole through me, he looked confused. Almost as if he found believing what I had said, hard. I took a gulp, a part of me wanting to drop his gaze and excuse myself but a more stubborn side firmly holding his gaze.

Jaden and I stood starring at each other, neither of us saying anything. The only sound that could be heard was the steady breathing he was producing and the shaky one I was. He parted his lips to speak once again but the silence was interrupted.

"Jaden? Aurora? Come down, lunch's ready!" Jada called for us, her voice breaking the painful but inevitable silence. I watched as anger suddenly flashed through Jaden's features, he moved to say something but I shook my head, instantly quieten him, "Don't".

I shuffled past him and made my way down the corridor headed to the downstairs kitchen, all the while feeling him boring a hole through my back as he followed, sluggishly behind me. I forced a smile onto my lips as we both rounded the corner and arrived at the modernly designed kitchen plus dining room.

"What's for lunch?" I heard Jaden ask behind me and shuddered from how casual he sounded when only five minutes ago he seemed confused, hurt almost. I had noticed how quick he was to shrug situations off and I couldn't help but silently wonder if that was how quick he was to shrug away our friendship.

"Martin, over here," she started and gestured over to a man, considering how he was dressed, I assumed was the Smith's family chef, "Has prepared Prawn with Lemon Pasta". Martin smiled, obviously pleased with the recognition he was receiving.

We all settled around the rounded glass dinner table and collected a medium sized serving each. The silence that took over wasn't awkward but neither was it comfortable, it hung somewhere in the middle of both. I couldn't help but occasionally steal glances over at Jaden, and once or twice I had caught him looking over at me. He was engaged in conversation with Willow but he didn't seem to be fully concentrated.

"Ah, yes. Willow, Jaden, Aurora. I have something to tell you guys that will definitely help you bond!" Jada announced, excitement was the first thing that could be heard in her voice. She was obviously trying to grab all of our attention except I didn't look up from my plate as quickly as I guessed Jaden and Willow did.

'What on earth makes her think I want to be friends with these fuckers' Positivity and I, hardly ever got on, if that wasn't already clear.

"Aurora?" Willow spoke grabbing my attention, "Are you in?"

"On what?" I asked, confusion and lack of interest present in my voice.

"Going to the festival in town this afternoon"

My first thought was a simple no but after quickly glancing at Jada, I found myself, against my own will, nodding and smiling slightly at Jaden and Willow.

That Afternoon at the Carnival...

During the car ride, no one really spoke. It was silent but I couldn't decide whether the silent was comfortable and needed or awkward and unwanted. It hovered somewhere in the middle, just like the one we had all experienced this morning . We were soon all out of the car and shuffling around looking at different rides.

I sighed as I locked gaze with a massive ride Willow was excitedly pointing at and soon enough, pulling me and Jaden towards it. We didn't have to wait in line once we had decided to go for the ride though and some cold part of me was glad, the line was way too long for my liking anyways.

The ride didn't gain much of a scream from me or even a shout. The ride, probably the biggest, hadn't managed to gain a reaction from me. I sighed inwardly again as we all bounded off. Jaden and Willow came to a stop to probably decide where to go next but I found my legs leading me towards one of the stands, my eyes trained on the warm colored sign board.

The soothing and familiar song playing, contrasting hugely with the electronica songs that blared around the park. I sighed contently as I came to a stop in front of the stand, taking in what it had to offer.

I had soon found something that caught my attention. I picked it up, ran my fingers around the stem, smiling slightly as I fitted he flower crown on my head. Through the mirror I caught sight of Jaden, watching me and I turned to him.

"Hey" he started and paused momentaringly, "That looks nice on you".

I looked at him for a moment before turning around and replacing the crown were I had got it on the stand. "Can I speak to you?" Jaden's voice rang through and I nodded my head slowly. He started walking away from the crowd of people and I trailed behind him.

"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked me making me blink at him like he was crazy. He probably was going crazy. I frowned deeply at him. "What did you want me to say?" I paused glancing up to see little children running and laughing, "Oh, hey Jaden! Remember me, we used to be bffs when we were younger!" I said using a high pitched voice.

He laughed loudly and I cracked the slightest hint of a smile at his infectious laughter. It took a lot not to burst into laughter as well. "Good point" he smiled after calming down.

And after that, things seemed to cool down between us. We easily engaged in chatter, easy laughs and smiles every now and then. I remembered why Jaden was my best friend. Though we'd argue a lot, we would make up even faster. He had that affect on me, making me happier with just the crack of a goofy smile.

He soon leaned over and pulled me into a hug. "I am so sorry" he muttered into the hug and I smiled thankfully. "It's okay" I mumbled back. He pulled away shaking his head.

"No. It's not okay. Let me make it up to you, just me and you" he thought out loud and I glanced at him curiosity present in my eyes.

"How does lunch sometime sound? We have a lot of catching up to do" he grinned at me and I grinned back.

I was mentally arguing it out. I was meant to hate him right. He had hurt me for so long but here I was finding the idea of lunch with him, the best thing to happen since discovering chocolate chip cookies. I sighed inwardly before nodding.

"That sounds amazing" I smiled happily. He seemed to have been holding a breath because he huffed and grinned back at me. His smile mirrored mine with one simple feature, excitement.

We made our way back over to the group we had arrived with. Laughing and joking around. He had his arm looped around my shoulder as he told me one of his many skateboarding accidents. I laughed as he told me what happened at the incident.

"Where have you two been?" His mother asked once we came into view.

"Catching up," Jaden shrugged and I nodded lightly. Jada seemed slightly surprised at his response before she cracked a huge smile.

And that was how the rest of the day out went. Light smiles and laughter. Jaden and I had split up, deciding to go our own way. It was obvious there was still a bit of tension between us and I wasn't sure if I had forgiven him. After all, he had caused me a lot of distress.

"Thank you," I spoke and pulled him into a hug as we were walking back. He was surprised before he accepted the hug and smiled back.

I could feel our friendship blooming and I loved the feeling.
