My birthday was today, which means Mom and Rory will want to throw me a party, which is fine if people would actually show.

I hate my birthday it reminds me I am closer to getting old and wrinkly and that not many people like me.

I lay in my bed as I looked at the ceiling it was a school day, and I had to get ready for school.

I reluctantly get up out of bed as I look through my dirty piles of clothes, trying to find my clean uniform. I am not the neatest person in the world, but I at least try and make myself presentable.

I looked in the mirror at my face, which made up still had residue on my face, my eyeliner still on my waterline, and my cheekbones.

I quickly start wiping it off, which gives me de ja vu from wiping off my makeup after a hangover, and I'm trying to hide it from my mother.

I then heard hush and giggles, which I assume it is my mom and sister.

They always loved my birthday and have tried to get me to like it myself, but I never did.

I then heard my door open and saw my mom and sisters gleaming faces as they walked inside with pancakes that were smothered and glistening with syrup and, on  top, was a birthday candle.

They were singing Happy Birthday as they walked closer to me and placed the plate of pancakes on my vanity, and Mom started to sing it obnoxiously. When they finally finished, they both kissed my cheek.

"My baby is 17!" Lorelai exclaims, hugging my shoulders and putting her cheek against mine.

I smiled softly and uncomfortably as I did not like being touched or hugged at all, but I let her do this was my mom.

Rory was beaming with joy. She was always a happy kid.. I wish I was like that.

"Come on, Isabelle, blow out your candles. You're not 17 until you blow out the candles, " Rory says as she waits for me to blow out my candles.

I then blew out my candles, which was on my birthday pancakes, as I watched the small fire vanish, leaving smoke in its place.

Rory and Lorelai both clapped their hands as they watched me blow out my. Candles, Lorelai then hugged Isabelle one last time, then stroked her hair in a comforting manner.

" Tell me, kiddo, what did you wish for?" Lorelai asked Isabelle.

She shrugged, and with a fake smile that looked almost real, she said this.

"Why should I tell you it's a secret mom?" Isabelle says as she digs into her pancakes.

Lorelai then messes up Isabelle's hair, which makes it more messed up as she had just gotten up from school.

"Come on and eat at the table like a civilized person. Iss, besides you and Rory got school in..30 minutes, " Lorelai says as she gives Isabelle a smile and leaves her room.

Rory stays as she sits on Isabelle's bed as she watches her eat her pancakes and she then looks around her room, looking at her posters, decorations, and her mess of piles of clothes on the floor or chairs.

"So how does 17 feel?" Rory asks Isabelle.

Rory was a year younger than Isabelle as she was born in October of 1984, and Isabelle was born in December of 1983.

Isabelle looks off to the distance as she thinks for a moment, feigning contemplation.

"Just like 16, nothing has really changed. Have you noticed anything different, Rory?" Isabelle says, striking a pose as Rory inspects her like something has changed about her.
