FARIA“What do you want me to do then?"
"Take me to the police station. I'm going to file the FIR and make those men rot behind bars." I answered in a heartbeat.
“Alright.” He said and then turned to his mausa. “Take her to the police station.”
And with that, he stormed out of the house.
I blinked in confusion at his sudden changed demeanour.
“Do something, this boy is going to get himself in trouble,” Maasi spoke to her husband, pressing fingers over her temple.
“I'll call my friend. He's a lawyer and—” He turned to Jia. “Bring me my phone.”
The next few hours passed in a blur, and Maasi and Mausa took me to the police station to make me register the FIR once the lawyer came.
When we reached the police station, my heart started racing in anticipation.
It's okay, Faria. Make those sick monsters pay for what they did to you.
I was in the middle of explaining the situation to the female police officer when she furrowed her brows in confusion and checked for something in the already registered complaint and informed me that the FIR had already been registered along with the CCTV footage of that pub of last night.
The senior officer came when he was informed about it and shifted his attention to Ekansh's Mausa. “The culprits are already behind the bars. The man who filed the FIR was the victim's husband who is also in lock-up for brutally assaulting the culprits.”
The lawyer debated with the officer for a while for the release of Ekansh. They came on equal footing for his bail, but of course, the police officer demanded a large sum of money, and since the case was filed against him, he needed to present himself in court.
The police officer showed us the pictures of those two monsters to prove his point. My gaze fell on the picture and an odd satisfaction washed down my heart.
They were brutally beaten up. Their body covered in blood and bruises. I cast a better look at the picture and realised that their wounds were deeper at some specific body parts. The same parts where I'm hurt.
Ekansh had inflicted pretty good damage on them. But I'm not complaining, it's rather satisfying.
Once Mausa was done with the blame, he dropped us back to Ekansh's place.
He transferred the money to his mausa's account which was needed for the bail. Mausa asked him not to but he didn't listen.
Now that I'm alone, I couldn't help but ponder on the stark difference between my family and Ekansh's. They all must've despised me after knowing who I was, but last night, when I was molested, Maasi, Mausa, Jia and Aditya, all took care of me. How did they do it? How did they put aside their hatred? Maybe because it's not my fault that Ekansh's family is dead. How can they empathize with me?
My parents, why aren't they capable of showing empathy? The death of three people in the building collapse was a minuscule event for them which could be solved with money.
