The dimly lit Slytherin common room, with its greenish glow and serpentine decorations, was filled with a quiet murmur as students settled in for the night. Siddarth sat in a secluded corner with Emily, Daphne, and Tracy, his face serious as he recounted the events of their punishment in the Forbidden Forest.
"...and then the Dementor just fled," Siddarth finished, his voice barely above a whisper. "I don't know why, but I felt this strange strength."
Daphne's eyes widened in shock. "A Dementor? Near Hogwarts? What are they doing here?"
Emily and Tracy exchanged worried glances. Emily's heart ached as she listened, a mix of fear and admiration swelling within her. She had always known Siddarth was special, but hearing about his encounter with the Dementor only solidified that belief.
"Siddarth," Daphne said sternly, her voice trembling with a mix of anger and concern. "You should never have gone with Draco. You know how reckless he can be. Do you have any idea how worried I was when I heard you were sent to the Forbidden Forest?"
Siddarth looked down, feeling a pang of guilt. "I'm sorry, Daphne. I didn't think it would be that dangerous. But Draco was insistent, and I thought I could handle it."
Daphne's eyes softened, but her anger was still evident. "You need to be more careful. You can't just take risks like that. I don't know what I'd do if something happened to you."
Emily watched the exchange, her heart heavy. She had always harbored feelings for Siddarth, but seeing Daphne's concern made her realize how deep those feelings ran for Daphne as well. A pang of jealousy and sadness struck her, knowing that her dreams of being more than just Siddarth's best friend might remain just that-dreams.
Tracy, sensing the tension, tried to lighten the mood. "Well, at least you made it out in one piece, Siddarth. And you've given us another mystery to solve. What was that Dementor doing here?"
Siddarth nodded, grateful for the change in topic. "Exactly. We can't let this information get out. If people find out there are Dementors near Hogwarts, it will cause a panic."
Daphne sighed, her anger dissipating into worry. "Just promise me you'll be more careful, Siddarth."
"I promise," he said, giving her a reassuring smile.
Emily forced a smile, trying to push aside her own feelings. "We'll figure this out together. We're a team, after all."
As they continued discussing the strange events, Emily couldn't help but glance at Siddarth, her heart torn between her unspoken feelings and the friendship she cherished. She knew that whatever happened, she would always be there for him, even if her dreams remained just that-dreams.
