Jake led us to what seemed like a safe house but turned out to be a rather shabby hut. As we entered, a wave of familiar warmth washed over me, though the surroundings were far from luxurious. The dining table was set with mismatched plates and glasses on a worn brown tablecloth, echoing the dark brown curtains that veiled the windows. Across the room, a tattered sofa sat against the wall, flanked by a shelf cluttered with dusty books lying face down. The floor was covered with a green rug, muffling our footsteps, while the wooden walls were bare and unadorned, devoid of any modern amenities like a fridge, TV, or Wi-Fi.

Jake , Elijah and I took our seats at the dining table.

"I know you must have a lot of questions," Elijah said softly.

"That's an understatement," I replied, my curiosity piqued.

Jake nodded and began, "Let me start from the beginning, as it seems you're unaware of the magic that runs in your bloodline and the origins of our current situation."

"I'm listening," I said, trying to focus on his words as Elijah crossed his arms, preparing for a long explanation.

"I am Jake Morphis 18, a shape-shifter. This is Elijah Chronos 32, a time traveler. We are currently in my time, which is different from yours. You are a Seerstone, just as Elijah mentioned—the one with the ability to dream of the future."

The terms "shape-shifter" and "time traveler" felt like something out of a fantasy film, but I kept my thoughts to myself, allowing Jake to continue.

"What we saw on the rooftop—the sun and moon tearing the sky in half—is actually the necessary condition for time travel. It brought us here. Elijah has some control over our destination, but not always; this was one of those times when he didn't."

"Are we in the future or the past?" I asked, trying to make sense of our situation.

Elijah answered, "Only time travelers, shape-shifters, and protectors can discern the specific time period we're in. It's not that we can't tell you; it's just that even if we did, you would hear nothing but muffled voices. If you piece it together yourself, that might be acceptable, but we can't help you further."

I nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "Try me," I said, determined to get answers.

Jake began to explain, but soon I noticed he was speaking in a language I didn't recognize.

"English, please?" I requested.

Jake smiled and assured me that he was speaking English. I looked to Elijah for confirmation, and he nodded.

"So, no matter what you say, I can't understand," I said, somewhat disheartened.

"That's the only piece of information you won't get directly. However, you can still read books or speak to people for hints. Direct texts will be blurred, and muffled voices are side effects you should avoid, as they can drive you mad," Jake explained.

"Is it okay if I continue?" Jake asked, gauging my reaction. I gestured for him to go on.

"I'd like to know more about the rumbling earth in that forest," I said.

Elijah quickly responded, "That's the shape-shifting land; it constantly rearranges itself every hour, indifferent to who or what is in it."

"Wow," was all I could manage before looking at Jake to continue.

"We first met in the summer of 2024, and here we are now. As for why the three of us are together, it seems to be destiny," Jake said, glancing at Elijah for additional input.

Elijah added, "There's a prophecy that goes like this:

When the sun and moon collide in the sky of the peak heat,
