ISLA
"At what time will the boss arrive" I ask my manager Victor as I clear the leftovers off the tables in the restaurant.
Victor told me that our boss will be coming to visit our restaurant today from Seattle and I'm so eager to meet him. Victor has told me few things about him but he mostly told me that our boss is a very good guy. Hudson found me this job just few months ago so this is my first time I'm meeting him, again Victor told me he's a very busy man. I heard he has restaurants here in California Las Vegas New York and Seattle.
"He just texted me that he's here so I guess you should prepare your introduction speech" Victor says. "Relax, I was just kidding" He adds and I laugh.
"Hello, a customer is here" A quite familiar voice speaks and when I turn to look at the customer it's Kyle
"Kyle?!" I furrow my eyebrows surprised to see him.
"Isla?" He says, also surprised to see me
"Welcome, what should I serve you. I'll prepare it right now" I say, guiding him to the table.
"Uh Isla?" Victor calls me.
"Oh Victor, I should introduce you to Kyle he is-"
"Our boss" Victor finishes the sentence and I blink.
"What?!" I shout.
"Awkward" I hear Kyle mutters
"Can you stop doing that" Victor tells me.
"I-I'm sorry uh it-it's just I didn't expect it to be you, I'm sorry sir" I bow a little.
"It's okay Isla, just drop the formalities. We're technically relatives" Kyle politely says.
"Oh my God, I still can't believe this" I say. "I'll be back, I need to use a bathroom" I tell Kyle. "Victor, can we talk for a second" I whisper to Victor and he nods.
"So you knew?" I ask Victor in the kitchen
"I'm sorry Isla, but Hudson told me not to tell you about this" He apologetically explains.
"But you should have told me Victor, we're friends" I say, disappointed that my friend and boyfriend lied to me.
"Hudson is my friend too Isla, but please forgive me I should've told you" He says.
"Okay, okay" that's all I manage to say.
When I walk back from the kitchen I find Kyle serving the customers and that surprises me. He's too good to be true, the boss himself serving customers with so much generosity, that's so kind of him. Absent-mindedly I find myself staring longer than I should.
"A good guy, isn't" Victor's voice brings me back to reality.
"Yeah, indeed" I agree tearing my gaze from Kyle and continue to do other helpful activities.
It's evening and I'm washing the dishes when Kyle approaches me.
"Hey" Kyle starts as he stands next to me.
"Hey, do you need something" I ask him as I continue to do the dishes.
"Actually yeah" He says
"Okay" I dry my hands on the apron, listening to him.
"I want you to take a rest, and I'll finish the rest of the work and prepare something for us to eat" He says walking me to the table.
"What? No! I can't stay while you're working. It's not fair" I resist.
