"That... is the consequence of entering the realm of the dead as a living being." Kaiba said calmly, while the long fingers of his right hand moved thoughtfully to his cursed chest.

Silence fell as Joey tried to make sense of these words.

But he didn't understand:

"What's that supposed to mean now? You're supposed to tell me what it is and not try to make me look stupid with metaphors again. So just tell me plainly and clearly what's going on!"

"I did Wheeler. But I have to be a bit more specific with you it seems. Are you familiar with the new virtual Duelmonsters world, which is still in the test phase?" Kaiba asked coolly, and this time Joey seemed to know what he was talking about. The blonde crossed his arms calmly before making a precocious statement:

"You mean another one of your online horror games that never ended well? I've heard of it, but I'll keep my hands off it. I don't trust all that virtual crap anymore. And what does that have to do with this disease anyway?"

Kaiba explained calmly:

"What if I told you that you can travel to other dimensions with this technology?" only to earn another skeptical look.

"You've got to be kidding me, right? I've never heard such bullshit! Your defeat must have really got to you, huh?"

Joey couldn't make heads or tails of the whole thing. What was he talking about? But his reaction was followed by Kaiba's snippy voice:

"I'm not joking mutt. Whether you believe it is up to you, but I'm telling the truth." And then he started at the beginning:

"For about year, I've been working on a way to push the boundaries of what's possible and make interdimensional travel a reality. And of course I have succeeded."

"Pff, sure," Joey just waved it off because the story already seemed ridiculous to him. But when he saw Kaiba's serious look and how he stabbed him with it, his disbelief wavered. He quickly rowed back:

"Ok wait, let's say what you're babbling about is true. Why? What do you want in other dimensions?"

"Not dimensions. I just wanted to go to one in particular."

And with Kaiba's next words, Joey's eyes snapped open in horror:

"Dimension 4.2.8. The realm of the dead."

Without consciously thinking about it, only one name crossed Joey's lips:

"Atem..."

When Kaiba heard that, he just clenched his fist and growled dangerously:

"If he thought he could just walk away without still collecting his pending defeat from me, then he knows me poorly."

And then he continued with his explanation:

"Well I managed to enter the realm of the dead and finally settle our match. But when you enter a world that wasn't made for the living, it has serious consequences. To be honest, I didn't really expect to make it back at all. Still..."

He casually pointed to his chest:

"...this has stayed with me as a souvenir. The decay of body and soul, if you can believe the pharaoh's words. Gods don't like it when you break their rules, were his words."

The brunette now became a little more serious and revealed the cruel fact of this story to Joey:

"I'm dying Wheeler. You threw your life away for a dead man."
