The girls laughed, but something in Mei's eyes made them pause. After a moment of hesitation, they decided it wasn't worth the trouble and walked away, grumbling.
Li Na looked up at Mei, her eyes wide with gratitude. "Thank you," she whispered, her voice shaking.
Mei smiled, feeling a sense of accomplishment and relief wash over her. "No problem. Let's get your books."
As they gathered Na's scattered belongings, Mei's System screen flashed with a new message.
