A M A
As I emerged from my slumber, my mother's voice beckoned me to rise. I hoped our encounter wouldn't devolve into another heated exchange.
However, my spirits lifted upon seeing Yaa, and I eagerly embraced her.
"It's been far too long," I said, and she nodded in agreement. We decided to stroll through the market, indulging in lively gossip and warm conversation. As we walked, I shared with Yaa the tale of Akwasi's transgression. "He struck me," I said, pointing to my cheek, and she gasped in shock. "Impossible," she replied, her expression incredulous.
"Why remain betrothed to one who would harm you?" she asked, and I shrugged. "I fear he's enchanted me; it's the only explanation."
Yaa vowed to speak with my mother, urging me to reconsider the union. I dissuaded her, knowing my mother's unwavering admiration for Akwasi would only lead to further conflict.
My attention then turned to a resplendent necklace, its golden surface polished to perfection and adorned with vibrant rubies.
"What's the price?" I inquired, and the vendor replied, "500 gold dust particles and 20 gold ackies." I gasped, feigning outrage. "You're as cunning as a fox, trying to fleece me of my coins!" The vendor smirked, unfazed by my dramatics.
As I continued to banter with the vendor, I spotted a familiar figure in the distance.
My heart skipped a beat as I approached, only to be halted by the sight of a woman on William's arm. Her beauty was captivating - golden curls, emerald eyes, and a radiant smile.
Was she his wife? The thought sent a pang through my heart. Had I misinterpreted our connection entirely?
As I stood there, frozen in surprise, William's eyes met mine, and his smile faltered.
He looked like he'd been struck by lightning. Lady Charlotte, still chatting away, seemed oblivious to the sudden tension.
William's gaze darted between me and the lady at his arm, his expression a mix of shock, guilt, and panic. He took a step back, his eyes locked on mine, as if searching for an escape or an explanation.
"Ama," he said, his voice barely above a whisper, "I...W-what are you doing here?."
He asked making my anger only rise.
What kind of question was that?!But I didn't want to hear it. I felt like I'd been punched in the gut, my breath knocked out of me. William's flirting, his sweet words, his gentle touches - all of it now seemed like a lie.
The woman at his arm finally noticed the awkwardness and turned to me, her eyes narrowing slightly. "And who might you be?" she asked, her tone dripping with elegance and a hint of disdain.
I forced a smile, trying to maintain some dignity. "Just a friend," I said, my voice tight. "A very dear friend."
William's eyes widened, and he opened his mouth to speak, but I cut him off. "Don't bother, William. I think I've heard enough."
And with that, I turned and walked away, leaving William and the beautiful Lady amidst the bustling market stalls.
Yaa's concerned voice trailed behind me. "Ama, what's wrong?"
I ignored her question, my emotions simmering just below the surface. "Nothing. Let's just go home. We've been out long enough."
Yaa protested, "But I've barely finished my errands."
I retorted curtly, "Then stay."
My abruptness was met with a shocked gasp from Yaa as I walked away. Angry tears pricked at the corners of my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. I blinked rapidly, fighting to maintain my composure.
Upon entering my house, I was greeted by my mother's disapproving stare. "And whose house do you think you're entering with that attitude-"
I cut her off, my hand raised in a silencing gesture.
"Save it."
Her gasp followed me as I stormed into my room, slamming the door behind me.
I collapsed onto my bed, surrendering to the tears I'd fought so hard to hold back. I sobbed until my throat ached, the pain and betrayal threatening to consume me.
The sorrow and despair in those two words! It's as if Yaa's concerned voice is echoing in Ama's mind, a reminder of the pain and heartache she's trying to process.
As I lay there, tears soaking my pillow, I felt like my world was crumbling around me.
William's deception, my mother's constant criticism, and now this...this feeling of utter betrayal. I thought I'd found a true friend in Yaa, but even she seemed oblivious to my pain.
"Ama, open the door!" Yaa's voice came from outside my room, laced with worry. "Please, talk to me!"
But I couldn't. Not yet. I needed to process this hurt, to wrap my head around the fact that William had been playing me all along. I buried my face in my pillow, letting the tears flow, and whispered, "Go away, Yaa. Just leave me alone."
The sorrow and despair in those words! It's as if Yaa's concerned voice was echoing in Ama's mind, a reminder of the pain and heartache she's trying to process.
"no ama you can confide in me,you know it"she said and I ignored her.
"If you tell me what is wrong I will tell you a secret I have been keeping from you."she said and I paused my crying.
I opened the door slightly and asked.
"Promise."I said and she nodded and I let her in and locked the door._______________________________
