The (kinda long) last chapter in this first arc of 'Hero Housekeeper'!
LET'S FUDGING GOOOOO!!
Nate's POV:
The sunlit hallway disappeared in an explosion of yellow lightning and a rush of heat, colours blending, blurring and warping before my eyes.
But the sensation ceased as soon as it started, the heat and bright colours reforming into a room of gunmetal grey steel walls and linoleum floors.
Tower Sub-Basement 1. I deduced. The Training Room. That's the only place that looks like th-URK!
My legs suddenly gave out, making me fall face-first onto the floor. As I fell, my vision started swirling, my mouth and eyeballs buzzing as a hot, stinging sensation shot down my body. It felt like I was getting a swirly inside a jet engine.
"Whyyygggg issszzzhhh everrrrthnnggg shayggginkkk?" I drawled on the ground, my jaw sagging with every syllable.
Oh God, this was humiliating...
"Oop, my bad, dude." Bart laughed sheepishly. "Probably not used to being lugged around at super-speed, huh?"
Well, considering I'm flopping around on the ground like a drugged old seal, I'm going to say, NO, I'm not used to it. Thank God, I cleaned this floor the other dayyyggggg...ughhhh
Shit, even my brain feels scrambled.
Cissie sighs and hauls me back up onto my feet, flopping me against a metal column and folding her arms with a huff.
Another groan escapes my mouth, this time of annoyance. "Figuressss yourrgg nottthhh affegggteedddd..."
By some miracle, Cissie must have understood me, because she pursed her lips at me without missing a beat. "I've known Bart since before I was a Titan, Houseboy. After you do a few missions with speedsters, you get used to the effects."
My stomach twists like its being sucked into a black hole. Ugh, I'm not sure I want to get used to the effects...
"Yeah, I know you're a bit buzzed, man," Bart clears his throat. "But we've really gotta go before Cassie finds us!"
Oh right, how could I forget about the bloodthirsty Amazon warrior princess who wants to rip me to shreds? Jesus, I should have taken that job at the daycare centre when I had the chance-
A loud bang goes off in the floors above us, almost knocking me to the floor again.
Looks like the fighting up there is getting worse...
"And that's our cue to leave five minutes ago!" Cissie declares.
I wince. "Okayyyggg, I'm trynggg, but I'm thttttill-OW!"
Cissie kicks me square in the shin, waking up all my nerves in an explosion of pain. I fight the urge to grab my knee and hop up and down like a Looney Tune.
"ARGH, you bi-!"
Cissie hits me again, this time a slap across my right cheek.
"OW! Will you stop hitting me?!"
"Well, at least you're talking normally now." Cissie smirked. "But you should probably start moving too, Houseboy! I don't want to scrape you off the floor when Cassie finds us!"
Cissie grabs my arm firmly enough to make me wince, yelling orders at me as she urges me to follow her.
...So why I can't I leave?
