CAMILA DEVINTS
"Wait.. wait.. Gabriel was shot?" I hear a voice rise on the other end of the phone.
"Mae! Don't yell! You don't live alone!"
She relaxes. I hear her exhale. "Tell me what happened. Are you okay?"
I glance around to make sure that Gabriel isn't in my room, or standing outside the door.
"You know how I said.. Gabriel worked at an office?"
"yes.." she says, waiting for me to continue.
"So he actually works with the mafia."
I hear the other end go silent. Please don't tell me I just scared my best friend away.
"Holy shit, Cammy."
I narrow my eyes as I listen.
"This is literally like a book! Like you're experiencing a book, in real life!" She laughs.
"What?" I ask. I was genuinely shocked, and confused. How is she so cool with this? The fact he basically murders people for a living?
"Your literally comparing this to a book?"
I can hear her laugh calm down, "you're killing me, Cammy." I hear her take another deep breath as if she was trying to remain composure. "Just tell me what happened."
I explain to her everything. At first she was all into the love story book shit when I told her about how Gabriel saved me and took me in. But she definitely shut up once I started talking about my grandma and how I got kidnapped. The only thing is I didn't know what happened behind the doors while I was chained up. I had just woken up from a black out. I just heard noises, I didn't even see Colvik when Gabriel took me out. I just knew he probably shot him. And maybe he took a shot too. Well he did. I tried to ask but he pushed me away and said it doesn't matter because I'm okay. I didn't mention any of that though. I didn't want her to make up some crazy scenario.
"Damn.. so you're literally living a book life."
"Mae, I swear to god." I can't help but hold back a laugh.
"You maybe want to come over?"
"Yeah, thanks." I say before hanging up.

"Thanks for dropping me off." I turn to Gabriel as we were sitting in the driveway of Mae's house.
The down side of all this is he won't let me leave the house without him anymore.
He nods, "anytime."
I glance at him, his phone in his hand.
"I'm calling Gio. To let him know what happened." He says.
"You okay?" I ask. I knew having to tell Gio about what their dad did would probably hurt him. There was also a big chunk of his past that I don't know about that might've affected him, and made this harder.
I didn't ask, although. I didn't really tell him about Mirabelle. So I won't push.
"Yeah, yeah I'm good. It's his dad to. I can't just keep everything a secret."
