Age 6

I sat with grandma on the couch as we waited for the phone call. Mom and dad were in the hospital because mom was going to have my baby brother. I fell asleep and woke up to the sound of grandma's phone ringing. A smile grew on her face and that made me really excited. "He's here!" I heard over the phone.
"The baby is here, Y/N!" Grandma said to me.
"Yay!" I jumped up and down on the couch.

The next day, I met my baby brother. "This is James!" Mom said, holding the baby in front of me.
"He's so cute!" I smiled, slightly stroking his hair.
"Yes he is!" Dad grinned. That night, I had to sleep in my own room and I was really scared. I cover myself with a blanket as I heard the noisy sound of James crying. I tried to go back to sleep but I couldn't. I woke up super tired and when I told mom, she said, "you'll just have to get used to it"
I was starting to hate the idea of having a baby brother. No one was paying attention to me. I basically sat on the couch the whole day as everyone fussed over the baby. "Mommy? I'm hungry!" I said. The baby then started crying.
"Be quiet!" Mom shushed me. I crossed my arms and ran to my room. I took a nap since I was so tired from the night before.

I walked into the living room to find mom and James asleep. I was about to ask if mom wanted to play, but dad stopped me. "Honey, mom's really tired. Why don't we go outside and play?"
"Okay" I sighed.
Dad took me outside and we played with a small, pink, foam football.
Even though dad was paying attention to me, I still missed my mom and she had barely even acknowledged me.
