The drive to Cuttlefish's hut went by in a flash of summer heat and fever dreams. Her sticky thighs suctioned to the leather seat and pooled oily sweat on the upholstery. But at least she wasn't the only uncomfortable one, 3 kept shaking her leg and wiping her eyes as if trying to scrub out the past few hours of her life. 8 flew forwards as the car slammed to a stop in front of a small dilapidated cabin the old squid called home. With her limbs complaining and whining about how much she had to do today, 8 stepped out of the limo. Everyone said their goodbyes to Cuttlefish,
"See you soon!"
"You too!"
"Say hi to the Squid Sisters for me!"
"Of Course!"
"Byeeeee!!!"
"Byeee!"
You know, that whole ritual.
They crammed back into the car again.
Instead of having existential thoughts, 8 completely passed out and didn't remember how they ended up at 3's apartment. 3 lived in a surprisingly peaceful neighborhood, covered in large oak trees that sprawled around the condos like they were hugging the concrete and stucco. It was a little colder here than in the rest of Inkopolis, and the ground felt refreshing after the burning asphalt around the rental place and diner. The shade from the trees calmed her down a bit, and if she wasn't already tired earlier she definitely was now. 8 sighed when she realized that they had to walk up two flights of stairs before she could go into hibernation. She heard Marina talking to 3 behind her,
"You sure this is gonna be ok with you?"
"I mean, it's not like we hate each other anymore you know?"
"I guess, good luck anyways though."
Pearl jumped in to say farewell,
"Ok that's great bye!!!"
Off the Hook jumped back into the limo and it drove off quickly to go to their recording studio.
8 realized that this left her and 3 alone. Turning around she tried to do her best "I wanna be your friend don't kill me." smile. 3 didn't respond but instead walked ahead of 8, muttering about where her flat was.
Well that could've gone worse.
