After nine at night , I'm out of the shower. I took my time in there to think about, well, everything.

It's been a very long day, but it's not over yet.

I dry my hair with a t-shirt as I enter the bedroom area of the room at Red Sage.

Chris almost wasn't going to let us stay here because he didn't want to deal with his parents, but we were tired and in the area. Plus, Crystal had already prepared the rooms. She's not a housekeeper, so I wondered why Mary asked her to ready the rooms at the bnb but perhaps it's none of my business, I'm grateful is all.

Subverting my expectations, Chris isn't in the bedroom when I enter. His bags are on the bed but they've been opened and made a mess of his clothes and things everywhere.

Hmm. . .

Unable to sleep, I hop out of the bed and check my phone.

10:54pm

Where is Chris, I ask myself in my head.

Growing worried, knowing my fiancé, I slip into a tee and slippers so that I can search the inn.

First, I knock on the door across the hall.

"Who is it?" Jabari's voice booms from the other side.

"Housekeeping." I pretend, covering the peep hole.

Upwards of a minute later, Jabari opens the door to see me standing there.

"Oh," he speaks with a groggy voice, "hey, sis. What's up, why you awake?" He blinks his dark eyes open.

I rub mine. "Have you seen Chris?"

He shakes his head. "I been sleep. He ain't with you?"

I tilt my head at his question. Obviously if he was with me, I wouldn't be looking for him.

"He's probably with Carter or Dale." Jabari suggests, edging a yawn.

I nod, probably agreeing.

"Good night." I say to Jabari.

"Good night, sis." He says, closing the door.

The bed-and-breakfast is pretty calm at night, that makes sense with all of the older guests.

Only, it's too quiet. I'm kind of scared, the halls are extra dark, there's no sign of life around the corners. It's like a graveyard. Is no one staying up late, sheesh?

"Morgan?" A whisper makes the hairs on my arm stand up.

Hand on my heart, I cautiously rotate to see who's behind me.

"Crystal?" I make sure it's her.

She laughs faintly, walking towards me with open arms.

"What, does this place have a curfew now?" I make fun.

Crystal walks by my side down the hall.

"No," her mature voice talks. "Business just isn't doing so great."

That alarms me.

"What?" I choke. "This place is always busy."

"Maybe it's just the season."
