"There's a package for you upfront." Jace said, sticking his head into the room.
"Package." Damon said looking up from the movie he was watching and pausing in the absentminded petting of his dog which in turn whined in complaint.
He gave it one more consolatory pat before leaving through the same door Jace had come through and jogging down the stairs.Jace was right, there was a package.
He carried it back upstairs and sat on the floor with his back against his bed as he opened it.
2 literature books, 1 journal. He picked out the hardcover books one by one and found a letter at the bottom of the box. He examined it silently. It was from _____
The relationship he had with _____ the weird emo girl in his class was a complicated one. He'd started talking with her a while ago because of a bet and somewhere along the line, fell in love just as she did, love was confessed and a relationship bloomed then, the bet was over.
They broke up or rather he avoided her from then on, no matter how heartbroken she seemed or how the dark circles under her eyes didn't seem like just makeup anymore, no matter how much his own heart ached; the bet was over, it was time to move on.
Maybe that was why he felt downcast and a prick of worry and foreboding as he opened the letter.
Hey,
It's been a while, hasn't it? Don't worry, I'm not going to waste your time on minute details so here I go, straight to the point. He cracked a smile. How typical.
And then he continued. His hand trembled as he read and a teardrop touched the letter right next to a similar stain, one that had probably appeared as the letter was being written.
Damon sprang up as he finished and raced to the wardrobe for his coat. He took a step forward before something like realization hit him, he sunk back to the floor, the coat tightly fisted in his hands.
"Hey Dames, are you -" Gray stopped as he stared down at his younger by 4 years brother whose shoulders were now shaking as he buried his head into his knees and sobbed.
Damon never cried. The door was closed and Damon was wrapped into a wordless hug while the letter lay to the side, stained and forgotten.
I'm tired.
I usually am, tired I mean. That's normal but things just seem to be getting worse lately. I'm not really sure how to write this because I've never done it before. I mean if I had, I'd be dead already, right?
Sorry, that wasn't funny. Before I continue, I want you to know that it's not your fault. Everything that's happening is a choice fueled by my own decisions.
I've been alone a long time and all, for so long a time that I forgot what it was like to have someone by my side but when you came, I felt happy and satisfied. You gave me things I never had, made me realize things I never would have. But then you were gone, and I was alone again. I felt the silence then, more than I ever had.
What I'm going to do has always been inevitable, with or without you, I would have done it. The only difference is the timing.By the time you read this, I'd probably already be gone.
I am grateful to you, for without you I never would have known how it felt to be truly happy.
Thank you, Dami. The books in the package, 2 of them are those books you wanted, although I have a tiny suspicion that you just said you wanted them as a last minute resort when I asked you which books you liked.
I know you lied to me about liking books, you're more of a movie person.
The last one is a diary, a part of me that I don't want anyone to know about so I'm giving it to you. If you don't want to keep it, burn it. This is the last thing I ask of you. Please don't blame yourself.
Please move on.
I love you.
Yours sincerely,

"What sort of books do you like?" The raven-haired girl said, turning to the boy behind her. He glanced around before pointing out a random book on the shelf. The girl blinked, tilting her head,"I didn't take you for the type but I'm sure 'America through the ages' must be a very interesting topic."
"Huh?" He glanced back at the book and then hurried to defend himself "I'm a very patriotic person. Besides it's a great book, I read it everyday."
"Everyday?" The girl asked tentatively and then realizing he was about to be caught on his lie, he smiled and as she opened her mouth to ask a question that he could tell from the mocking curve of her mouth would be his undoing, he leaned forward placing a kiss on the side of her cheek and interlacing their fingers simultaneously "Let's go check out that cafe."
She followed him out of the bookstore to the other side of the street where the newly opened cafe stood with little to no resistance and as he turned to glance at her questioningly, he noticed the red tips of her ears with a satisfied smile.
Cute.
