"Tell me, Ms.."
"____"
"Right. Tell me Ms. ____. Why did you kill Mrs. Baron?"
The light coming from the old bulb hanging from a wire on the ceiling flickered, its light illuminating the 2 people sitting at the table directly under it.
The blonde haired older man seated directly opposite the handcuffed raven haired green eyed woman who gave a smile then and replied. "It's simple. She was an annoying bitch."
The man glanced down at the whirring recording tape on the table before turning his gaze back to the woman "So you admit to commiting the crime?"
She smiled again "I never denied it in the first place."
His eyes narrowed "Ms ____, this is not a game."
"Sure, Officer Smith? I could have sworn it was." She smirked, the sarcasm in her voice nearly tangible."Ms. ____, you do realize that you are confessing to being the perpetrator of the homicide of Mrs. Baron, a crime which is punishable by life imprisonment." He said, pressing his index finger against the tabletop with every word.
She smiled again "Well, it all depends on who's behind bars, right?"
His eyebrows furrowed "What are you -""What I am saying, Officer-" The title had a mocking lilt to it. "- is that while you are here interrogating me, the apparent prime suspect, evidence is being found showing that you, Officer Smith, are the culprit of the crime. In fact, in about 10 minutes, your very own colleagues will burst through that door to arrest you-" She paused, her lips curling back in a nearly maniacal smile "- for the murder of Mrs. Baron."
She laughed "And you know what makes it even better, you, Officer, will have no way of denying it because all the evidence points to you."He drew back "You're lying."
She tilted her head. "Wanna bet?"
He relaxed "You are foolish then-" He picked up the tape recorder in front of him casually "-This has been running since the conversation started."
She cut in. "Tell me, Officer-" She said as she slowly opened her tightly clasped hands to reveal the roll of film that had been placed in the tape. "How does a tape record without film?"He let out a breath, curling his now sweaty palms. "Why are you doing this?"
She smirked. "Do you remember Lena Reeves?"
He blinked. "I meet a lot of people everyday."
"The fact that you can't remember the 16 year old, the girl with a bright future ahead of her, the girl who you wrongly imprisoned due to 'evidence', the girl who'd you didn't listen to." Her eyes softened sadly. "The 16 year old that committed suicide after a month in prison." She looked up at him then, expressionless. "That fact alone has killed all remorse I might have felt towards my actions on you."She leaned back. "Tell me, Officer, how does it feel to be at the other end of the barrel?"
His panic, which had always been a hindrance to his clear thinking, was setting in. "It isn't my fault. Evidence can't be ignored."
She smiled brightly. "Which is exactly why you should be worried."He cocked his gun, pointing it straight at her. She tsked, shaking her head slowly. "Don't you get it? You're done. Shoot me now and you'll just be proving the evidence right and then, even if you did manage with your 0.1% chance of wriggling out of Mrs. Baron's case, you'll still have my case to deal with. You'd still be convicted."
His hand was shaking.
Briefly, he heard the sound of a door opening from far off. "Would you look at that? Perfect timing."The door opened simultaneously with her throwing herself onto the floor, her face suddenly contorting into a reddened, teary mess. "I swear I didn't do it. I swear it. We had our differences but I wasn't going to act on it. I swear."
"Jones, drop the gun."
That was when Officer Jones realized what it looked like, him with newly found evidence as the perpetrator of a murder case pointing the gun at the main suspect of said case.
Shaking, the gun slipped from his hand, landing on the table with a clatter."Put your hands where I can see them and turn around slowly." He complied , still in shock.
His case partner stood behind the chief inspector, looking at him with sad wide eyes while the inspector watched him with thinned lips.Later, as he was handcuffed and being led away, he glanced back at the woman in time to see her look back at him. There was a beat of silence before the corner of her lips curled up.
"Bye, Interrogator."A/N
Sorry, I know it's not that good.
