She went up the stairs but stopped at the top. "Where do I go now?" she asked, turning to Thomas.
"Well you are practically under house arrest, so that means we can't leave the house, and there is practically no where to get some privacy here," Thomas told her.
"Gee that really helps," Alice said with a smile.
"I guess we could sit in the kitchen. Grab some dining room chairs and sit there. I don't think anyone will be there," Thomas joked.
"You know that's not a bad idea," Alice said. Liking the idea, she lead the way to the dining room and then to the kitchen. True to his word, it was empty.
"How many people are here?" Alice asked after they settled down.
"A lot. Maybe 50," Thomas answered. "The worst time is at night. There are three bedrooms upstairs, one for the woman and the other two for the men. Some men sleep in the living room too. It is super crowded."
"Wow that's a lot of people for such a small house," Alice pondered. "Do you know how much I missed you and everyone else?"
"Not as much as I did," he replied with a smile. "And Jess hasn't been the same ever since you left. She keeps moaning about."
"I wish I could see her now," Alice sighed. "Oh well. At least I have you."
"I'm glad I have you too, and I plan on keeping it that way," Thomas told her. "No matter where you want to live, I will not leave your side."
"Thomas, I don't want to rule," Alice whined. "But I don't know if I can ensure my parents' safety unless I agree."
"I think you would be a great queen," Thomas told her. "And I am being completely honest."
"But it is such a big responsibility I don't know if I can handle it. You've seen me whenever I am stressed, and you know I cannot handle stress," Alice told him.
"But I will be here to help you, and another thing is that the people love you. Believe me, I heard many people say good things about you, and not just because they once knew you. I've met absolute strangers who cannot wait for the day when you take over," Thomas informed her. "Besides, can't you agree to do it temporarily?"
"I guess," Alice said slowly. "Maybe if I just stepped in until they found someone else to rule... but I definitely won't agree unless you are with me."
"Okay then, let's go tell Andros," Thomas jumped up.
Alice looked hesitant. Thomas spoke up. "Listen Alice, the most important thing for you is that we stay together, right?"
"Of course," Alice looked more confident now.
"Well, if you don't become queen, eventually they will let you go, and then we will be together. If you are Queen, you won't go unless I am with you. Either way it's a win-win situation," Thomas said.
"I see your point," Alice said. "Let's go see Andros then."
Together, the two went back to his office. Andros hated to be disturbed, but his face lit up when they walked in. "Ah princess, did you reconsider my offer?"
"Yes I did, and I am willing to accept it," Alice said self-assuredly.
"Splendid!" Andros smiled.
