Move 3. Training Day

It was the morning after I caught Yanma. I was dozing off against a tree while Yanma remained inside its Poké Ball. Ralts, however, was already awake and standing in the middle of the field where we had battled the day before.

With his eyes closed, Ralts took a deep breath and focused his energy, trying to summon the power he felt within him. For a moment, nothing happened. Then, with a sudden surge, a blurry clone of himself appeared beside him, only to dissipate into a puff of smoke.

Ralts gasped for air, clearly exhausted. "What... What am I doing wrong?" he muttered, mostly to himself.

"You’re trying to force it," I said, startling Ralts. He looked back to see me with one eye open, clearly not fully awake yet. "And it’s ridiculously early."

Ralts wiped the sweat off his forehead. "Sorry for waking you."

I shook my head with a sleepy grin. "No worries. Just don’t make a habit of it."

There was a brief silence before I spoke again. "You were trying to use Double Team, right?"

"Yeah."

"You remember when you tried to learn Calm Mind?"

Ralts chuckled nervously. "How could I forget? I had a headache for a week after that."

I nodded with a chuckle. "Or that time you fell asleep mid-battle trying to use Hypnosis?"

"Please, don’t remind me," Ralts groaned, feeling the embarrassment wash over him again.

I laughed harder, enjoying the moment. "And let’s not forget when you lost your voice from using Growl too much."

Ralts crossed his arms, frustration bubbling. "Are you just going to make fun of me, or are you going to say something useful?"

"What I’m saying is that you shouldn’t force yourself to learn moves you can't. This is the result of us f'ing around, so just focus on your strengths."

Ralts sighed, disappointment creeping in. "I get that, but it’s frustrating. Your Pokédex says I should be able to use Double Team, and then I see Yanma using it so easily, but I can’t even make one clone."

I listened intently before responding. "You’re thinking too narrowly. Ralts are known for their special skills, especially with status moves, which is why most trainers evolve them into Gardevoir instead of Gallade. But you’re different. Your physical strength is impressive, and your speed rivals some Electric-types."

"Sure, but wouldn’t it be better if I had both that and status moves like Double Team or Swords Dance?" Ralts pressed.

"Maybe, but if you focus too much on what you can’t do, you might lose sight of your unique abilities. Max out what you already have."

Ralts nodded in understanding. "You’re right."

I closed my eyes again, ready to drift back off. "I’m always right."

With newfound determination, Ralts resumed his training. Instead of trying to learn Double Team, he focused on mastering his Psychic move. He practised lifting various objects, from small pebbles to large tree trunks, slamming them into the ground or against trees.

As he trained, Ralts suddenly heard a buzzing sound nearby. Looking over, he saw Yanma had just emerged from her Poké Ball.

"Good morning, Sir," Yanma said, her tone crisp and formal.

Ralts tilted his head. "Uh, good morning. Why the strict tone?"

"I apologize if I am mistaken, but are you not a male? I meant no offence."
