Brother and Sister

Chapter one

Let's start a few years before Rose started school. Her brother was in year 9 at the time, when their parents got very sick one night. Both of their parents suddenly collapsed onto the floor, as the illness began to take over. Ace ordered Rose to go to her room and call an ambulance. Surprisingly, Rose knew what was going on so she just stayed in her room, she could handle being there when they died.

Ace's tears were slowly sliding down his face.
"Ace, promise to take care of yourself and little sister at the orphanage." His mother croaked.
Ace couldn't believe his ears.
"Or-orphanage? No! No."
"Ace, it's for the best." His father tried to calm
him down.
"But..but they will split us up and if a family comes along and only wants one kid than the other gets left there. Wh-what then?! I can't keep her safe! I need to protect her!" He protested.
There was silence.
No struggles breaths.
No wheezing.
No pulse.
They were dead.

Ace didn't want to believe they were gone so he started to talk to them.
"Very funny guys, you can stop pretending now. You are very good at this... please stop."
He became very worried he didn't want them leave, he was too frightened. He didn't think he was capable to look after his little sister. His heart was in his throat when he started to talk.
"Mum..?" He glanced over to his mother.
"Dad..?" His eyes began to widen and fill once again with tears. Then it hit him like a ton a bricks, almost too hard. He fell to the floor clutching his heart, the pain was almost unbareable. Suddenly he became frantic,standing up and started shaking them. "Mum, Dad wake up! Wake up! Please don't leave us alone! Please stop wake up! I can't keep her safe, you know that!" He turned away from his parents with tears in his eyes, shoving his hand through his hair. That's when he saw Rose pouring her eyes out and running back up stairs. He then whipped his head and body back around ,with bitterness in his eyes and tears streaming down his cheeks,
"How could you? You can't leave us! You promised! You promised to never leave! You promised to always protect us! Y-you promised..." All the good and bad memories began to rush through his head, which made the pain grow to the point where it almost stopped hurting completely.
Rose came down and saw the state of her brother and just sat on the stairs with her head in her hands, sobbing. Ace turned his head back and noticed his little sister shocked and sad on the stairs. He walked up to where she was sat and placed himself next to her. Ace tapped her on the shoulder and held his arms open wide. Rose dove into his arms and started crying hard then she had before.
"It's gonna be okay. I am here and I will protect you. And that's a promise. I love you. I will always be here for you family stick together"
*stop song*
After a few minutes Ace remembered they had called an ambulance and they needed to go.
"Rose we need to go now." Ace said calmly picking her up and carrying her to her room.
"Why?" She asked.
"If they see us without our mum and dad they will send us to an orphanage as we have no other family to look after us. If we go to an orphanage they will split us up and we may get sent to different homes."
Rose gasped in fear and quickly gathered some clothes and her favourite teddy in her backpack. Ace also packed his bag but he also took all the money out of the safe their parents had in there just in case, they had given him the code in case they weren't around and needed something such as clothes or food.
There was roughly 30k and he put it in a little bag he always kept his money in. Once they both grabbed everything they heard the sirens incoming. Ace put his backpack on his front and threw his sister onto his back and ran out the back door. He ran to the back of the garden where he pried open one of the wooden panels allowing Rose to get through easily, then he put in back as quickly as possible. Ace then climbed over the fence and grabbed rose and started running again into the woods to hide.
