A few days later, Daryl finally took a shower and put on a new shirt and I'm in a strappy crop top and ripped jeans as we take a walk around, getting to know Alexandria.
"So, now that you've had a few days to warm up to it, how do you feel about this place?" I ask as I look up at him.
"It don't matter what I think, as long as it's safe I'll stay wherever you wanna."
"That's cute an' all, but shut up Dixon, answer me honestly. What do you think?"
"It's alright, I wont know 'till I get to talk to the people, get to know them."
"I get that. I've been talking to a few families, they all seem sweet so far."
"Nah," Daryl replies, "There's always one asshole."
"Daryl, just because theres always been one asshole before, doesn't mean there will be this time."
"Law of averages." He mumbles as he just shrugs a little and we keep walking.
As we get closer to the gates we notice a bit of a commotion, I watch as Deanna's son gets up in Glenn's face, I look at Daryl, who looks like he's already preparing himself to step in if he needs to.
"Look, i'm not having this conversation. You obey my orders out there." Aiden states sternly.
Without hesitation, Glenn replies. "Well then, we're just as screwed as your last run crew."
Oh snap.
Daryl steps forward as Aiden dares Glenn to say it again and pushes him back a little while Tara and Noah attempt to diffuse the situation. Suddenly, Deanna comes over.
"Aiden. What is going on?" She investigates.
"This guys got a problem with the way we do things." He turns to face his mother. "Why'd you let these people in?"
"Because we actually know what we're doing out there." Glenn states matter of factly.
Aiden's body language shifts and Glenn picks up on it, ducking as Aiden swings for him, but when he stands back up he throws a fist right back on Aiden's nose, making him fall backward.
I feel Daryl's body language shift next to me as he clocks on to Nicholas putting his gun down and start to run for Glenn, so he lunges forward and tackles the guy to the floor, pinning him down while I quickly move between Glenn and Aiden, facing Aiden. My brows furrowed, my eyes dark, giving him a black look.
"If you don't wanna end up on your ass again, I advise you to back the fuck up before I put you there." Aiden looks at me and takes a step back when he sees the look in my eyes, seeing my serious demeanour.
Just as I say that, I see Rick run over and take hold of Daryl and pull him off of Nicholas, but Daryl is still very much on high alert, pacing backwards and forwards, his eyes pinned on his target, obviously trying to find a way around Ricks outstretched arm, keeping him away from Nicholas, knowing Nick would walk away with broken bones if Daryl got to have his way with him right now.
"Daryl, stop." Rick says firmly.
"Nah! No way."
"Daryl!" Rick tries again, more sternly.
"No!"
During their little back and forth I called Michonne over to take my place between Aiden and Glenn, diffusing them, knowing she'll handle it in a way that doesn't escalate the problem, before going to Daryl.
"Daryl Dixon. Calm your ass down, right this second. That is enough. You made your point. Loud and clear." My voice low and stern.
He stops pacing around but doesn't take his eyes off of Nicholas. He's calm enough for Rick to put his arm down and focus on the others, nodding gently to me before he turns to face Deanna as she speaks.
"I want everyone to hear me, okay? Rick and his people are a part of this community now. In all ways, as equals." She states, turning to look at Aiden her face serious and stern. "Understood?"
"Understood." He replies, hesitating a little. Obviously not happy with that.
"All of you, turn in your weapons. Then you two come talk to me." She points at Aiden and Nicholas before they walk away.
I focus entirely on calming Daryl while Deanna talks to Rick and Michonne, after a second of watching Nicholas walk away, his deep, hooded eyes pinned on his back he finally takes his eyes off of him and looks at me.
"You need to relax. I know it's difficult for you to feel comfortable in a new place, I get it. I really do... but I really like it here... I wanna be able to stay here, with you, for as long as the universe allows us to be happy... I don't just want to survive with you... I want a life with you..."
Daryl just looks at me and listens before nodding and turning to walk away, before looking back at me.
"I told you. Law of Averages. There's always one asshole." He walks away after that.
After a second of watching him walks away from me I feel a soft hand on my shoulder, I turn to see Rick stood next to me.
"You really like it here, Robbie?" He asks.
"I do."
"So do I. Thank you for calming him down a bit back there. I wouldn't have been able to juggle his anger and the others at the same time."
"Always a pleasure... What was Deanna talking to you and Mich' about?"
"She landed on jobs for us. Police Constables." He says.
"Constable Rick Grimes... has a nice ring to it. So that just leaves Daryl and I as the jobless ones." I laugh a little.
"Yeah. I guess. What did Daryl do before the fall? Maybe I can suggest it as a job for him to Deanna?"
"He didn't. He was Merles 'product'." I say before going to walk to our home.
"Try and see if you can get him to come around on this place?"
"I can try. But you know how he is."
Rick laughs and gently lifts his hand, "Oh, yeah. You don't have to explain it to me. I've been on the receiving end of his temper once or twice. I get it. But he's a good guy. Just try?"
"I will. Take care, Grimes." I say as I start walking home.
"You too, Dixon."
