Adira's POV
We sat quietly for a few seconds and I took that as an opportunity to lay down on the couch.
"Don't marry him,"
My eyes darted in his direction but he showed no signs of saying something that explosive.
"Why?" I asked, realising a second later that he doesn't even know me or who I'm marrying.
"You don't even know me," I affirmed.
"I know the man you're marrying," he dropped another bomb.
"Huh?" I looked at him in confusion.
"Armaan Mehra,"
"You know him?" I asked, only to receive a chuckle in response.
"You do?" I asked again, only to confirm his reaction.
"How?"
"We went to the same University," he answered.
"Oh," he said. "And why should I not marry him?" I asked.
"Because you can do better," my eyes widened when I heard that and this time, I broke into a dry chuckle.
"And why exactly would you say that?" I enquired, now wondering what makes him make such a wild assumption.
"Say what?"
"That I deserve better?" I was amused at his statement.
"Personal grudges," he said.
"What kind of honesty is this?" I questioned out loud.
"Are you in love with him?" He enquired.
"Y-yes," and then there was just silence.
"You shouldn't have to think twice before answering that," he said.
"Okay enough, let's not talk about it," I grew frustrated with him stating facts.
"Your choice," He shrugged and layed down.
Present Day
This is how Siddharth and I met for the first time.
So he went through with the divorce, lost the custody of his child, lost probably a lot more than I can anticipate and probably had his life crumble in front of his eyes.
Yet he somehow looks so much brighter and happier. You can see the light in his eyes.
It filled my heart with this sense of relief and joy for him. I used to wonder about him sometimes and always thought about what must have happened to him after we parted ways. Did he finally find peace? Did he ever smile wholeheartedly again? Did he find love again?
And now I know.
A smile crept on my lips reminiscing the man he was before and the man he has become.
"What are you smiling at?" I snapped back into the real world when I heard Indrani Maa's voice.
My smile immediately faded and was replaced by a startled expression, as if she had caught me doing something illegal.
"Nothing," I said.
She rolled her eyes and handed me her iPad.
"These are the designers you need to contact for the engagement outfit fittings for Maya," she spoke.
