"Stella." Cody held her hand. "Stay with me Stella, don't you dare give up on me . Cmon Stella."
The boat quickly approached the dock.
Stella heard sirens in the distance and went to turn her head.
"No no,"Cody grabbed her head gently. "Don't move."
Stella grabbed Cody's hand.
"Remember when we were in Chicago and it was snowing and both our showers were freezing. So after you wore my hoodie and we sat by the heater?" Cody kind of chuckled and moved some hair out of her face. "Cmon my Stella. You can't leave me just yet."
The ambulance drove up and the EMTs jumped out, running to the edge of the dock.
"Stella bear!" Liv nervously grabbed her other hand. "You're gonna be fine Stella. You're gonna be fine, okay? And when this is over we can watch Love Island together and eat way too many tacos."
"It hurts." Stella said out of breath. "My dad, I want dad."
"I'm gonna call him okay?" Liv tried to stop herself from crying.
The EMTs had a stretcher waiting, seeing the best way to place her from the boat on to the stretcher.
"You have to let her go sir."
"What?" Cody snapped and looked up.
"Sir we have to hurry and get her on the stretcher." The EMT said.
"Oh..." Cody realized. "Right." He unwillingly but yet carefully handed her over and hopped onto the dock helping Liv.
"Let's go to my car Liv," Randy touched her arm. "We'll meet you at the hospital!"
The two took off to the car while Cody ran by the stretcher and watched the medic team load her into the ambulance. Immediately once the doors shut, bandages, oxygen, medical supplies went flying everywhere.
"Stella," an EMT spoke and shined a light in her eyes. "Cmon Stella stay with us. Can you tell us your last name?"
"Stella..." Cody held her hand.
"L–Liv. I pushed h–her out of the way." She struggled. "I seen the– the, s–shark—"
"Stell please save your breath." Cody pleaded. "Just relax and you're gonna be okay."
"Cody?" Stella said.
"We're here." The ambulance pulled up to the emergency entrance of the hospital.
In an instant they took her in the hospital, running through the halls with her on the stretcher.
"Cody?" She said again.
"I'm right here Stella," Cody went to hold her hand but they wheeled her into an operating room.
"Sir you're gonna have to stay back." A nurse told him as they shut the doors on him and he couldn't even see through the little window.
Cody let out a huge sigh and sat on the hospital floor against a wall. It reminded him too much of when his dad had passed away. He remembered all too well calling Stella from a pay phone in the hospital. Cody recalled sitting on the hospital floor crying his eyes out when he heard footsteps running. The second he looked up he seen his beautiful best friend rushing over to him. That day his dad died. This time he was praying for a different outcome.
She'd been in the operating room for what seemed like forever. Cody ran to a truck stop nearby to pay for a shower. Randy brought him a new pair of clothes. He and Liv and some other wrestlers stopped by and waited in the waiting room. Cody was pretty sure the front desk workers hated him as he kept asking for an update on Stella every twenty minutes.
