---------------------------------------------------

Mickey walked into school with his baby sister trailing nervously behind me.

Today would be Mandy's first day of freshman year and his first day of sophomore year. That also meant, to his utter disgust, that he'd have to encounter Lip Gallagher for a whole nine months. Mickey was dreading every moment he'd be in the presence of the smart ass.

"Well, Mands, are you ready for your first day of freshman year?" Mickey asked his sister, looking back toward her.

"As long as I don't get perved on, I'll be just fine." She said with a light chuckle.

Mickey returned his attention back to the walkway infront of him. I said back to Mandy, "That won't even be a problem if you stay away from boys. Which, you will do that. No boys for you, little miss southside."

They walked through the halls of school. Boys and girls scattered left to right, talking to small groups or as some others would perhaps prefer, standing alone by their lockers.

He looked around at the scattered bunch of teenagers and scoffed. Mickey never liked crowds, they always made him anxious, even though he did his best to hide the discomfort with a tented glass of disgust, or an illusion of dominance. Mickey had no clear picture of why he hated crowds. He first realized the anxiety at the timid age of 11. He was at a family gathering, one of the only ones they had ever had, and also the last one they had. He stood in the center of his family when he had an uncomfortable sense come over him. He had started sweating and had rushed to find his mother, but to no luck. Instead Mickey found his father, who was talking to his eldest brother about guns and shit at the edge of the crowd. Mickey ran to him and hugged his waist, on the verge of tears. He wanted to get out of there. His father looked down at him and grimaced, shoving Mickey away from him, into the crowd of mostly unfamiliar faces.

He didn't find his mother that night.

------------------------------------------------

He walked into his first class of the year and sat down in the back of the room. Mickey had walked Mandy to her own class first, making sure she got there safely.

Mickey leaned back in his seat, hoisting his backpack into his lap so he could fish around in it to find a pencil.

He took a thin, yellow pencil out and sat it on his desk before zipping his bookbag up and laying it at his feet.

Mickey fidgeted with his pencil while watching kids walk in and fill the class room. Of course, he groaned and mentally cursed him out, when Lip walked into the room, all smug and proud as he took a seat at the front of the class. Who did that Gallagher kid think he was? He sure as hell wasn't the center of attention, praised by all.

He sat back against the chair as the class began, of course, he didn't plan on actually doing anything. It's a wonder why he hadn't been expelled for his horrid grades. If he wanted to be smart, he would be. Mickey didn't need to sit here and learn stuff that would never be of use to him in the future.

Mickey bacame alert once again when he heard the most annoying voice in the southside, the voice of which was owned by Lip Gallagher. He was answering a question, and he couldn't help but take it as a chance to be a smart ass.

He groaned. It would be a long year.

If you asked Mickey why he hated Lip Gallagher, he wouldn't know what to answer with. Mickey really didn't know the exact reason he hated, or started to hate Lip. If he were to think about it, he'd most likely come to the conclusion that he hated Lip because his father and Mickey's father hated eachother for years, even decades, before either of them were born. Mickey was taught to hate the Gallaghers no matter what, no matter what they said or did, or needed. Lip was the oldest Gallagher in school, so he was an easy target to hate on. Not to mention they were in the same grade, but these were really the only reasons he actively started to hate on Lip. When he first started to hate on Lip, he had no reasons to do so, though after a few months, he found multiple reasons and icks.
