She's not quite sure what she expected when she woke up. She'd never seen the healer's cottage before, she never had a reason to. Callie Mitchell had never invited her over and Selena had never been sick enough to warrant a visit to the healer's private abode.

Very little was known about the healer's personal life. Only that she was far older than she looked, and Callie Mitchell wasn't her only daughter. Rumours circulated that Calypso had given birth to over a dozen pups in her lifetime. Rumours circulated that Calypso never had a mate, and all her children were the result of the Moon Goddess blessing her with children.

Rumours also circulated that Calypso didn't have a wolf either. No one had ever seen her wolf form, let alone shift before. So people speculated that she wasn't a wolf at all. People speculated a lot.

Calypso never confirmed or denied the rumours surrounding her. Neither did Callie. There were always strange rumours surrounding the healers of every clan. Healers had an extensive knowledge in medicine and herbs that was almost magical.

They were trained in the craft by the healers before them, and they were trained by the healers before them.

Healers themselves originated from witches, and their techniques from witchcraft. Witches were the true servants of the earth. Wolves were slaves to the moon, and vampires slaves to the sun. That's if someone believed in all the supernatural stories.

Selena only believed in what she could see. Anything else was a hallucination, a distortion of reality. The eyes never lied, unless she was tripping, which she had done only once with Eli and never again.

The plants in the forest were certainly...potent. Which was good for Selena. She doesn't know what would have happened if her mother hadn't gotten her to Calypso's cottage so quickly.

According to Calypso, her mother almost shifted with her in her arms, and Luna Ofelia had to hold her back from accidentally tearing Selena apart.

She doesn't remember this of course. She doesn't remember much of anything. She doesn't know why she can't just leave and go home, carry on about her day, about her birthday. It was her day. She should be able to do whatever she wanted.

She felt fine away, better than fine actually.

"Really. I don't know what all the fuss is about. I feel fine!" Selena pleaded her case, trying to get out of bed.

The healer pushed her back down with a stern look. Her mother stood guard at the foot of the bed, arms crossed. She could hear Luna Ofelia in the background tuttering about the herbs, humming softly to herself.

She breifly wondered whether Luna Ofelia had told the twins yet, or whether Calypso had told Callie and Eli. She hadn't seen Eli all day. It was her birthday and she hadn't seen her best friends. What kind of birthday was that?

"What's the last thing you remember?" Her mother asked, tapping her foot lightly.

Selena sulked, knowing the only way she would be able to get out of this sage and eucalyptus smelling cottage would be to do what her mother said. The quicker the better.

Sage and eucalyptus though, an odd combination. She knew sage was supposed to be remedial for health and wellness, but what was eucalyptus for? Selena knew for a fact that there wasn't a single eucalyptus tree for hundreds of miles.

Where did the smell come from? Maybe Calypso really was a witch after all. Maybe there was some truth to the rumours after all.

Selena breathed allowed, lulling her head back against the bed frame. She tried to recall anything, but it felt like trying to recall a blank slate. There was nothing there. Nothing that made sense anyway.
